Lawrence Arms -Buttsweat And Tears 7

Lawrence Arms
Buttsweat And Tears 7"

Although this is only an EP, this is the album of the year. The Lawrence Arms have done it yet again and blown away every expectation I could have possibly had.

This releases sounds like a mix of everything from "Apathy..." all the way through "Oh! Calcutta!". Perfect for their ten year anniversary.

Every song on here could possibly be your favorite.

So, I raise my glass to my favorite band and to another ten years of awesomeness.

Kill Your Idols/Crime In Stereo
Split CD

okay, so i own all of the crime in stereo albums. my love for this band will obviously bias this review.

regardless, this is a great split album. there are 2 crime in stereo songs that are exlusive to this split only (which happen to be 2 of their best), as well as a song found on their full-length (which you should also buy).

the kill your idols songs are awesome (of course), and they also do a badass cover of sheer terror.

i highly reccomend this split if you dig old-school hardcore. if you dig the songs, pick up KYI's "from companionship to competition" and CIS's "explosives and the will to use them".

Alkaline Trio
Crimson [Deluxe Edition] [O-Card] [Brilliant Box] [2 Discs] [Enhanced] CD/DVD

alkaline trio has been one of my favorite bands for almost 6 years now. i've seen them twice, and they're a great fucking band.

this album is awesome. in my opinion, it isn't as good as their self-titled album or MICF, but it's a great album nonetheless.

Crime In Stereo
Contract CD

CIS prove yet again why they are at the forefront of the punk/hardcore scene.

i think it's safe to say that this is my favorite EP ever released (with the exception of their tour-only EP called "fuel. transit. sleep.").

if you dig the full-length album (which i also wrote a review for), buy this EP.

passionate, honest and loud...CIS has more integrity than 99% of bands out there today.

Crime In Stereo
Explosives And The Will To Use Them CD

crime in stereo is one of the most impressive hardcore acts i've heard in quite some time. if you like hardcore acts such as lifetime and with honor, as well as the melodics of the movielife and the drunkeness of hot water music, then crime in stereo is for you. be sure to check out the songs "compass and square", "here's to things gone wrong", and "if you think we're talking about you, we are" for an idea of what this groundbreaking hardcore act sounds like.

AFI
Sing The Sorrow (Limited Edition With Book) CD/DVD

AFI has NOT sold out, contrary to popular belief. I know this is a bad way to start off a review, but it needs to be done =D This release is AFI's best one to date. Sing the Sorrow blends the dark and melancholy lyrics of "The Art of Drowning" with the somber depression of "God Called in Sick Today" with the agression and energy of "Smile". The release will definitely get comparisons to the Cure, Joy Division, and even some industrial bands such as Skinny Puppy. Everyone who loves dark, morbid, and melancholy music, i reccomend getting this cd. The DVD was sort of a let down (maybe because it's so cryptic and strange to the point of "what?!"), but i reccomend getting this release anyway. The 60-page book extends on the amazing artsy-ness and artistic sing the sorrow book (for those who bought STS back on marh 11th). AFI is my favorite band, and this release only makes me value them more.
