Bedtime for Democracy LP

Although it is not as bad as "Frankenchrist", this is by no means a triumph for the band. Average songs, forgettable choruses - and why on earth would anyone really remaster a DK-album? DK's not supposed to have that slick sound. But then again, I'm into Darkthrone, so take that into account.

Black Flag
Damaged LP

"Damaged", fronted by Rollins, is not the best BF-album out there, but a milestone in hardcore punk and a must-have for anyone remotely interested in the genre. "Sloppy and angry" is probably the best description one could give. A few weak tracks, but the good ones makes it all worthwile.

In my book, DAG are the only really interesting psychobilly band. Their unique mix of country, punk, psychobilly and rock, with elements of bluegrass and, err, the occasional waltz is what separates them from other generic bands.

"Hellucifernation" has few weak tracks, and even a cover version of W. Jackson's "Funnel of Love" that's even better than the original. With "Strangler..." "...Monsters" and "Reptile...", this record is on the same level as "Kicked Out of Hell" and "Hellbilly Storm".

Give Me Convenience... (Remastered) LP

It is strange. How could a compilation of rarities be better than most of their albums? Well, this one actually is. It captures the punk essence of DK, and illustrates the band's experimental side as well. A must-have, together with "Fresh Fruits..."

This album has been stolen from my collection five times already, and I keep buying it. Because this is the very definition of modern contry-influenced rockabilly/psychobilly. An essential for anyone remotely interested in such genres.

Misfits
Collection 1 CD

A great introduction to those not familiar (?) with one of the most influential alternative bands of all times, and a great relief for those of us who only have Misfits on vinyl. A few tracks too many, but if it ain't broken...

Horrorpops
Bring It On! LP

More alternative rock than *.billy, but good fun. What Horrorpops lack in originality on this record (as opposed to the great "Hell Yeah!"), they make up in choruses and melody.

In the beginning they were... somewhat dull. Even though their later performances are in a totally different league, their first album is still an essential. DAG repeats the formula over and over again on this record, but as the greatest psychobilly band ever (sorry, meteors fans), they do it with style.

Social Distortion
Greatest Hits CD

Straight-forward rock 'n' roll with few surprises, Social Distortion may very well be legends in their niche, but at the same time they are one of the dullest bands ever. "Greatest Hits" serves as a great introduction to even greater mediocrity.

Horrorpops
Kiss Kiss Kill Kill LP

Somewhat disappointed this time, but that's just because their previous recordings were oustanding. Back to a three-piece outfit, you would excpect Horrorpops to return to their more psyocho roots, but it's still good fun. As with most bands - the first is the best. And so on.
