This Is Horrorpunk CD

Well, there is a lot of "horror" content here, but not a lot of good "punk". With bands like The Other, Blitzkid, Crimson Ghosts, Dr. Chud's X-Ward, The Spook, and Mister Monster you can't help but think that if someone had took away their Graves-era Misfits cd's and replaced em with Walk Among Us, Dance With Me and Sleep in Safety, they might actually be good. But as it is, they are not. All the European bands have too much of a heavy guitar sound and redundantly boring verse, chorus, verse songs. The American bands are little better. Stuff like Blitzkid, Independents and Mister Monster are just plain awful. The good would be Killcreeps, Noctunes, Mad Sin and of course Ghoultown.

This is a really pretty solid release from this former goth band that has been around for like 12 years. There is a solid old school California punk feel here, along with the dark horror vibe. Definitely like classic early 80's TSOL, Agent Orange, Mommy' Little Monster era Social D, and Misfits. She Likes Skulls is the definite standout, a very rad horror punk anthem.

Legends From The Grave CD

This is pretty generic, like most "horror punk" bands these days. This is like a new school pop-punk version of horror punk with an unfortunate little bit of death metal thrown in here and there. If you like horror punk, don't be tempted to waste your money on this, even if it is cheap and has hot goth chicks on the cover.

You'd do much better to get Calabrese, Nim Vind, The Deep Eynde or Tiger Army.

This is really more of a novelty type thing to me. It's pretty much like a punk version of Grease set in 1982. The best songs are the 50's style ones. Too concepty for me.

This was, I must say, a little disappointing. Pretty generic sounding, nothing special. I have read reviews that compare this to TSOL, 45 Grave, and Misfits, but they are far from that level. Full Moon Fever is pretty good, and We'll Die Young has a definite classic X feel to it with the acoustic guitar and alternating male/female vox.

This is great, better than 13 Halloweens, a little darker and better songwriting for the most part, though they try to throw "hanging around smoking cigarettes" into three different songs, which is a little annoying. Still has the rad horror flick soundbites, and the great spooky basslines. Guitar sound is a lot like AFI when they were still good(The Art of Drowning era), those good spooky riffs. No duds on here, if you like horror punk, I'm sure you'll like it, it deserves more credit than Rue Morgue gave it in their review(they seem to be increasingly off-mark on music).
