Refused Are F***ing Dead DVD

DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF SHIT. Like most of you reading this, I love "The Shape Of Punk To Come" with all my heart, but this DVD is terrible. The documentary itself is one of the most overblown and pompous things I've ever seen and every second of it is filled with exaggerated melodrama. Kristopher Steen (Refused guitarist and film's creator) leaves way too much out, assuming that the viewer knows all about the politics and messages of "The Shape..." and ends up presenting a story that lacks in cohesiveness. On top of that, the documentary portion is short as fuck, the music video for "Rather Be Dead" is dog shit, and the most of the live performances are less than awe-inspiring. Maybe my expectations were too high, but "Refused Are Fucking Dead" fell VERY short in just about every way possible, even managing to take away some of the band's magic. The only reason I'm even giving it a two is because it's Refused.

You can't fuck with this... More hardcore (and WAY better) than anything by Fuel, this is one of my favorite 7"s.

V/A
Education LP

One of the few comps I've had over the last 6 years that doesn't suck... A few tracks are duds, but this LP is mostly solid to great Ebullition style 90s emo and hardcore...

Killin Toys CD

XSTABYOUINTHEHEADANDEATYOURFACEOFFX!!! Although this disc is pretty run-of-the-mill for modern hardcore, I still find this shit addictive. I love how the band had (they've broken up) a sense of humor (see band name and this CD's intro track), but were serious about what they had to say and what they were doing...

Emo Armageddon 7"

This shit is what happens when people outside the states get their hands on releases from Ebullition and Gravity: insane-assed and chaotic international emo. There's a lot of good shit on here (I especially like June Paik and La Quiete), but I wouldn't say that any new ground is being broken. If you like fourfa or either of the aforementioned record labels, then this is for you. Also, I believe React With Protest is releasing a second installment entitled "The Emo Apocalypse." I'm excited...

Gorilla Biscuits
Start Today CD

It's about time I got a real copy of this... I've loved Gorilla Biscuits for years and there's a damn good reason that GB have been such a major influence upon countless bands throughout the punk spectrum. Although I hate the song "Sitting Around At Home" and the harmonica solo on "Start Today" is completely ridiculous, you just can't fuck with this album. If you're down with SXEHC and you don't have this album or anything at all by Minor Threat, you just don't know what's up...

Iconoclast/Merel
Split 7"

Hey morons, this is real emo. Although this split isn't anything to get excited about, these are still pretty good tracks from two influential bands.
