I got the 7" version. The music is awesome (With Honor's side is great), but there were a few things that annoyed me. The first is that there are fewer songs on the 7" than on the CD... this is something I didn't realize when I ordered. The 7" has the With Honor songs "Long Story Short" and "Pipe Dream," and the Distance songs "Phase One of the Plan Succeeds" and "It's A Long Way Down." I have plenty of 7"s with three songs on a side, so I feel like they could have fit all the songs on the vinyl version. Also, there is a short gap between songs, when they should fade into each other, like you might have on a CD-R. The sound quality is also a little muddy and bass-heavy; I don't know if the CD version sounds the same way.
These are minor complaints though... the music and layout are awesome, and the white vinyl is pretty cool. This would get a 5 if I got all six songs on the CD.
The ambient parts here aren't too interesting, but the "real" songs on here are absolutely devastating. The distortion is incredibly thick, giving a really heavy feel to most of the songs. The sound quality on the LP is great -- this will put your phono cartridge to the test. The LP's packaging and artwork is incredible too... the booklet is full-size and really cool to look at.
This is a great album... for comments about the music see the various reviews for the CD. I just wanted to say that the LP has slightly muddier sound quality than the CD. My phono frontend is decent but not spectacular, and I would have expected better sound from this record.
Still, if you're a collector, you should pick this up. The insert is pretty cool-looking.
This album is pretty decent, although I don't like it as much as "Black Sails." The sound quality on this record is excellent; like one reviewer said, it's noticeably better than on the CD. Dream of Waking is a cool song, and the colored vinyl is fun to look at. Unfortunately, this LP does not have the secret song at the end of the CD version.
