Jerry's Kids
Is This My World? CD

I first heard this band on the Boston Not LA comp, they have some great tracks on that so you should get that too. Anyways this album is good, takes some listening to cos at first i didnt think it was that special not my favourite band from the early boston scene (theyre no DYS) but its still essential I like how the slow tracks dont sound all ploddy and are actually good. Raise the curtain is the first slow one on the album and is decent and Lost is the other one, Lost is one of the best tracks on the whole album. the general feel of the album is a wall of sound with over the top drumming which is great but....i get the feeling they were better live. Lyrics deal with alienation, with society - on a personal more than political level, its definately a youthful album which i can really relate to. Highlight tracks are I dont belong, Tear It Up, Crucify Me, Vietnam Syndrome, Lost, and the title track. Quite a few eh, I think with this review ive come off as more negative towards it than i actually am, its actually really good just not as good as i thought it'd be.

Step On It/Back On The Map CD

This is Slapshots second album, and a BIG improvement on Back On The Map. It's tighter, faster, and with better lyrics. This isn't one to miss, if you like Boston Hardcore, Hardcore in general, or just punk rock you NEED this, it's essential, and they although they still make good albums they havn't bettered this yet. These guys kill...

7 Seconds
Good To Go CD

This is 7 Seconds returning to the style of music on The Crew. Its a good album but The Crew it aint, sure the crew has worse prouction and you have to turn it up to hear it proper, but its still more hardcore than this. 7 seconds have always been a 'positive' bunch but one or two of these tracks are just tooo nice. it is still a good album though, but if your after modern 7 seonds get the newest one THATS great whole way through

Dance With Me CD

To Katie in Dallas, even though the singer's called Alex Morgan on the back it is Jack Grisham. He used to change his name with every release, I heard it was to annoy scenesters and keep ahead of the authorities. Anyway as for the music, if like me you got into TSOL through their first self titled EP which was straight ahead political hardcore punk, youll find this is a very different album. The politics are gone, and the musics gone more melodic and slower. I mean that in the best way possible, it doesnt sound to great at first but it really does grow. Every tracks good but ive probably heard Code Blue to many times, EVERYONES heard that one! I would start your TSOL collection with the TSOL/Weathered Statues CD which has their first and second EP. This is better but thats the better one to start with, plus it came out before this and is probably cheaper anyway so you save money.

Back On The Map CD

first thing is, im not straight edge at all, but i like quite a few of the oldskool bands cos er theyre good. this cd has the Back on the Map album, and Same mistake EP. It takes gettin into, cos at first it just sounds like a ramble, but after a few spins it wakes up somethin primal in ya. stand out tracks from Back on the Map are the title track (about bostaon hardcore comin back) Chip on my Shoulder (cheeky underage kids tryin to get you to buy for them, hey i aint straight but its a fuckin ball ache!) The Same Mistake Ep has 3 tracks, the title track musically aint that great but if yer havin girl troubles the lyrics should connest to make it pass. however the ep boasts the brilliant oi! influenced Might Makes Right which is self explanatory. this isnt super fast thrash, its hardcore punk but with a sorta steady pace. theres better stuff than this but you could do a HELL of a lot worse! just buy it

Leftover Crack -Rock The 40 Oz. 7

Leftover Crack
Rock The 40 Oz. 7"

This is well cool, 2 of the 5 tracks, (nazi white trash and stop the insanity) are earlier versions of tracks on mediocre generica. this is rougher and better for it in my opinion tho. i just listened to fuck world trade today, and theyve redone Rock The 40oz, if i hadnt already got this version id probably love it cos its a great track, but the version off this destroys it. havin said that, i wouldnt start your leftover crack collection here, get Mediocre Generica, I f you like that (and you really should) then get this.

Choking Victim
No Gods/No Managers CD

I actually heard the good leftover crack before this album so i was more used to their style, so it took a while to get into. However both choking victims' and leftover cracks' albums have a few tracks which are good on first listen, so you keep listening for those tracks and in time the rest of the album falls into place. With time this has become one of my favourrite albums and i think i rate it above leftover cracks' mediocre generica (which is also very tops). to make a comparison this is has more ska and is more melodic whereas leftover crack brought in more hardcore influences get both!
