Bad Astronaut

Houston: We Have A Drinking Problem

(Members of Lagwagon, Sugarcult)

Honest Don's 41

Released on October 15, 2002

First full length after a successful EP last year. Initially a three piece, they are now a septet and their sound has reached an entirely new level. A healthy mix of technologically advanced equipment like drum machines, computers and sequencers are put next to analog synths, piano, electric guitar, traditional percussion and even a bit of harmonica (courtesy of John Popper of Blues Traveler). Fans of Radiohead, Grandaddy and Elliott Smith take note!

The best Bad Astronaut release. Every song is a good one. One of those albums that you can listen to over and over.

I frankly love this cd. It's a lot different than Acrophobe, much more experimental, but I really like how it turned out. I recommend it for any open-minded music lovers.

Wow! This is an amazing CD. Joey Cape is doing phenomenal things outside the realm of Lagwagon. The songs on this CD are very mature and has a much more mellow sound than most of today's music. The song closest to punk is "Single", and it is an excellent song at that. All of the songs are good, but the best ones are probably "If I Had a Son", "Break Your Frame", and "Those Days." Awesome CD. Just amazing.

I first heard Bad Astronaut from a CD sampler that came from a zine I bought, which had "These Days" on it. Their song "These Days" is definitely one of the best, and you should give it a listen. Lots of their songs have a nice mellow sound, but they have enough not-so-mellow ones to give it a good balance. Give 'em a listen!

Great CD. A bit on the pop side, but not sugar coated. Different from Lagwagon, but the quality is the same. The sound is mature and mellow for the most part. It is a recording that I will listen to for a while, and not just one or two songs.

This cd is a bit poor, no where up to the standard of the last record.... just the songs are not as good. Check out a band called BEERBONG!!!! they are much better - super fast, super technical, super melodic!!! GET GET GET!!!!!!

Yawn. First album grabbed me more. If you are more into Lagwagon, you won't like this as much. If you are more into Bad Astronaut as a side project then you will like it. Personally, I don't think this album does anything to grab you.

Wow. People give out 5 stars too easily on here, but this CD really deserves them. After hearing mainly their songs from Acrophobe I was initially dissapointed as it's slightly less 'upbeat'. But don't be fooled, because after only a couple more listens the songs totally grow on you. It's not like Acrophobe, but in a way it is. You've gotta hear it to understand. Joey's vocals are amazing, the guitars are just as loud and gnarly, but there's loads more subtleties in there, every time you hear it there's something new you didn't hear before.

If you like Bad Astronaut, get it. If you like Lagwagon, get it. It's the best cd i've bought from interpunk!
