California punk band 1208's second full length Epitaph release Turn Of The Screw is here. Teetering effortlessly between melody and mayhem, 1208 pump out music with an edge and intensity sorely lacking in the genre these days.
1208, formed in 1995 and named for the apartment number the group first shared, plays punk like it's the only thing that matters in the world. Such an approach makes perfect sense with the understanding that 1208 were weaned in the presence of landmark groups like Descendents and Circle Jerks. In fact, for frontman Alex Flynn, punk rock is in the blood. One of his uncles, Greg Ginn, co-founded Black Flag and launched SST Records. The other, Raymond Pettibon, is a reputable artist known worldwide.
Still, good breeding didn't get Alex and his bandmates guitarist Neshawn Hubbard, bassist Bryan Parks and drummer Manny McNamara on the Epitaph roster. Diligent roadwork, exceptional tunes, an enthusiastic local following, plus guidance from their friends in Deviates were what helped the group earn the attention of Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge. Dragge in turn co-produced 1208’s acclaimed 2002 debut Feedback is Payback with console veteran Darian Rundall, who counts Pennywise, Yellowcard and Strung Out among his credits.

Once upon a time, I bought a compilation CD entitled "Punk-O-Rama 9" (also available here on Interpunk. Check it out!). This is where I discovered 1208. I'm listening to them right niow, in fact. If you are just looking for some new songs for your punk collection from a different band than the ones you've been lisening to in your mom's basement for the past few months (Recession. Times are tough, no judgements) this is a decent addition.
Whether you are sobbing over a break-up letter (e.g. Eviction notice from your mom. Again, no judgements) to "Fall Apart" or pumping your fist awkwardly by yourself to "Next Big Thing", you will find something worthwhile for your collection on this album.
Minus the fifth star because as good as it is, it's nothing too terribly new or innovative. Four stars for good composition and catchy punk rock tunes with good production values.

Much, Much better than there first cd. I kinda liked the first cd. But not enough to ever buy another cd from these guys again. After hearing a new song or 2, i decided to give them one more try. And as a growinng band, they improved a lot since the first cd. Good Job 1208! Rise Against kicks @$$!!!

I'm quite disappointed... The First album was really good, sounding like a young Pennywise. This new album is so much poppier... There are 3 goods songs where you can hear the kind of sound they had on their debut album, but the other ones are just to slow... I guess we have the new NUFAN... that suck so bad. Well, let's say I'm disappointed because I was waiting to much... perhaps it's a good album... but not as good as it should have been.

Bit more of a poppier approach than their last effort, but still maintaining the original feel of their excellent debut. I feel that there is a big European influence with 1208 & this album continues with that sound. If you liked their previous release you should be happy with this, if you've never heard them, think Millencolin mixed with Deviates & a little Ataris (but better). Damn good.
