Locust/Arab On Radar

Split (Shaped)

GSL 29

Released on March 28, 2000

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

A mind-numbing meeting of the, um, minds. Well worth the wait, this may be the single most overblown GSL release to date. Musical abominations from the east (ARAB ON RADAR 2 tracks) and west (THE LOCUST 5 tracks) go head-to-head in a record that is meant to represent a "puddle" as closely as possible. Five different vinyl colors: blood, snot, cum, poo-poo and pee-pee might give you an indication as to what the whole "puddle" concept was about. And what a concept it is! Full color jacket art by MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT's Neil Burke.

I love both these bands, and even though all the tracks have since been released on CDs, the bizarre "puddle" concept of this record makes it worth getting. It's an absolute must-have if you collect weirdly-shaped vinyl - mine was a puddle of "blood," on translucent dark-red marble vinyl, cut in the shape of an amorphous blob. Considering the music on the record, it's quite fitting. Just awesome.

I bought this mainly because i love The Locust. The Arab on Radar side was alright, but it cant compare to The Locust side. I really like the idea of the "puddle" shaped vinyl, i got a yellow one. If you are buying this for the same reason i did just go and find a copy of Flight Of The Wounded Locust 7" because all The Locust songs off this split are off that EP.

Ok, I bought this already knowing The Locust tracks (they appear on Flight of the Wounded Locust) but being a bit of a vinyl nut, especially for The Locust, having this shaped-vinyl (and what a shape it is!) was irresistible! So, for their noisy genius, the Locust side gets 5-stars! Arab on Radar, hmmmm, nosiy like The Locust although you get a sense their songs are more structured, but less chaotic and I really like chaos in my noisy stuff so I was kind of disappointed. They remind of that local badn thaty's pretty alright yet you know they'll never make it past doing local shows... That gets them a mere 2.5... So, if you're buying this only for the music, skip the vinyl purcahse and pick up Flight of the Wounded Locust (if you can manage to find the vinyl box-set of Flight... pick it up! Crazy four-piece puzzle set!!) but, if you're looking for a crazy-shaped vinyl and/or to complete a collection, go for it!

Awesome noise madness, the arab side is better then the locust simply beacuse its new songs, most of the locust tracks can be found on their other cds. Also the shape of the vinyl is cool. Mine was green and shaped in a wierd blob form. Very cool indeed.

The Locust side of the record is worth the money alone! Every song is addictive, and will have you wanting more. I personally don't get much out of Arab On Radar, definitely an aquired taste. The artwork and shaped 7" are unique and make it stand apart from the rest!
