Since By Man

We Sing The Body Electric

Revelation 112

Released on February 4, 2003

Since By Man have the intensity of Converge, danceability of the Swing Kids, melodic sensibility of Milemarker and a vision all of their own. Formed in Milwaukee, 1999, Sam Macon (vocals), Justin Kay (guitar), Kevin Herwig (guitar), Jon Kraft (drums) and Bryan Jerabek (bass) have created a solid foundation from four full U.S. tours and three releases on smaller indie labels, all now out of print. Together this five-piece form a cohesive, powerful unit that aims to give back to the musical community some of the sincerity and inspiration that it once gave them. The years of growth and hard work have led them to their new home on Revelation Records. We Sing The Body Electric has a maturity unusual in a debut full-length whilst the precision and intensity of their live show belies their youth.

A breath of fresh air in a really stale scene. No singing drummer and no Swedish death metal guitars (YAY). This is a CD thats pretty hard to describe. Its different without getting to the point that its grating and annoying. The best thing I can think of to compare this to is a heavier Mewithoutyou with swears

I really wanted to love this CD, but I can't reach that level. The material is interesting and varied. The vocals are great (clear, audible, and passion filled), and the instruments are great.... there's just something about this release that keeps it from my stereo on a regular basis. I encourage anyone to pick it up because it has moments of greatness, but as a long player, it may not be able to keep your attention.

that clip that interpunk has provided is a rather distorted glimpse at since by man. of course you can't expect to capture their album in 35 seconds, but that is probably the most "organized" portion of the whole cd. the rest of the album is chaos. every fan of hardcore needs this album.

I'm going to use the term "artcore" to describe this, regardless of whether or not that is a accepted term for this kind of thing. It has lots and lots of hardcore elements, but it also sounds highly experimental.

This album is full of some of the weirdest sounds I have ever heard in my life, and most of them are pretty interesting sounds. The more normal moments are really good too. Vocally and lyrically, it's highly similar.

I'd compare it to later Snapcase, only the experimentation is taken much further. Actually, I think it's a little too weird.

If you don't love this you have no business listening to music at all! Kids, this cd will revolutionize the genre as we know it. From the opening intro until the closing chords of 'Parole En Liberta' (favorite track) you will sit spellbound by the punishing force that is Since By Man. At first listen it is easy to pick out the ATDI influence, especially parts like the intro to 'What's Your Damage'. But do you hear the influences of bands on Gravity records? The dance parts are funky, the mosh parts are brutal, and the melodic parts are beautiful. Buy this, if you hate it you have my personal permission to come up to Ottawa and hit me in the nuts with a 2X4.

This cd is like whoa. I don't really know how to describe it, but essentially I agree with all the guys under me. If you are at all into the screamo/hardcore genre pick it up. Best songs are: Light Fuse Get Away, A Kid Who Tells on Another Kid is a Dead Kid, and Parole en Liberta. Also, In Threes is a nice song as a break from all the intense screaming and stuff. Overall, this cd is just one amazing piece of plactic. Buy it.

This band works. This is the only cd I have ever listened to where I started head banging without even realizing it. I love the guitar and the bass. If I tried really really hard to find something wrong with this cd, the only thing I could find wrong is that the vocalists singing voice could stand to be just a tad bit better. It doesnt really matter though. This band is really original and creative and they put on one fucking good live performance. Parole En Liberta is my favorite track. The guitar at the beginning is fucking sick.

this cd rocks, much heavier than i expected, but i find that a good thing. a provocative, fresh sounding band with intense lyrics evocative of refused. nice contrast between the biblical quote that is their title, the whitman quote that is the album name, and the phrase "play it fucking loud" on the disc itself. screaming vox with lotsa mic distortion sometimes breaking down into singing/speaking, ATDI style. jarring guitars that range from crunching to angular, excellent varied song writing. kinda boring artwork in my opinion, but well presented. all the songs on this rock, it sounds best listened too for all 30+ minutes, but the songs also each stand alone as well, especially "kid who tells on another kid" and "parole enliberta" fans of any sort of heavy hardcore or even dischord style bands, this is an urgent release that is deep and complex enough to be savored for a while. norf side krew fo eva!!
