The South's most prized punk band is back with a collection of twelve songs that they're calling "Front Porch Stories". A bit of South shines through with the use of a slide guitar on one track and violin (fiddle?) on another. Don't get the wrong idea, Avail still brings some of the fiercest punk rock/sing along/karate-dance hits to the table! "Front Porch Stories" is a chronicle of just that, personal stories that would be told amongst friends while sharing large bottles of beer, on a front porch. Friendship, love, life struggle, train-hopping, and betrayal, are all key lyrical topics on the album. Drummer Ed Trask did the artwork for the album, paintings and all!

I like this album. The re-releases that Jade Tree put out are also good, but I really like this album because of the twang-y folk-ish sounds that come out. SOlid hardcore a la Avail. Fuck yeah! Pick this up if you have thought about it, it will grow on you. ALso check out 4AM Friday.

Man do Avail kick ass. Back in April I was going to see the Bouncing Souls live so I decided that I might as well check out some CD's by the bands that were supporting them, one of those bands was The Unseen and the other was none other than Avail. That was a great decision on my count because Front Porch Stories has become one of my favorite CD's and Avail put on an awesine live show.
What's so great about Front Porch Stories is that every single song is solid and each track is so good that it becomes hard to pick a favorite track. It really is crazy that this band isn't ruling the world right now. Well maybe that time will come soon whenever they go back in the studio to make a follow-up to this CD.

awesome. AVAIL is a very talented band. they blend many different musical styles and it kicks major ass!! i cant think of one other band on fat wreck to have a fiddle in one of there songs. but under it all u have some very aggressive melodic hardcor. i cant put them in one category so thats the closest i can get to describing them. my favorite songs are... ALL OF THEM! id reccomend this to fans of good riddance, lawrence arms, or kill your idols. also check out the new bad religion and the new only crime cd(out july 12)!this gets a four because 5s are reserved for only the best and while this is awsome its not my favorite cd of all time

This CD is pretty damn good, they aren't hardcore but at the same time they aren't emo by a long shot. More like Pulley but a little heavier. Their songs are full of great transitions, take their song West Wye for example, it sounds country at first then kick ass punk, then it slows down a bit and finally they trash the set. It's insane...in a good way. Some slow songs mixed in is the only thing keeping me from giving this CD 5 stars.

Avail delivers another outstanding album. You'll be singing right along with the boys. I know I was. So, if you are an Avail fan you won't be disapointed unless you don't get this.

I am always suspect when buying new material from a favorite band these days. After the miserable last efforts of THE GET UP KIDS and JETS TO BRAZIL at least.
But AVAIL didn't let me down. This disc is classic and indicative of everything I love about these Richmond, VA. guys from start to finish. All the brilliantly complex, and yet folky lyrical imagery, ugly beautiful vocals and melodically aggressive songwriting. Yeah, it all contradicts itself, doesn't it? But that dichotomy is what makes AVAIL incredible.
If you have never heard this band, buy this record. You'll find yourself spending your lunch money to get their other stuff in a few weeks...
They give punk rock something to believe in again.

My god Avail is the SH*T! This album is pure Avail at its best. It makes me wish I had a Front Porch. Every track is fantastic and pure. The slide-guitar and the violin work amazingly well on tracks 3 & 5. That's Avail, always an open mind to try new things with their music, while still maintaining excellence. Plenty of chanting/bouncing/crunch songs. Their lyrics are as strong and true as ever. If you haven't seen Avail live, then you might as well curl up and die. Their intensity is unbelievable and addictive. Don't be a loser, buy this album.
