(Coalesce, Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Hope Conspiracy, Black Flag)

Initial 45

Released on March 18, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

This highly anticipated tribute to BLACK FLAG features a small, hand-picked group of some of the most important and promising bands in hardcore that we felt embodied the spirit, ethic and sound of BLACK FLAG in current times. The entire album blisters from start to finish with some of the most amazing, impassioned, mind-boggling and raging music from the absolute best in hardcore/metal. It features the first recorded work from COALESCE in over two years and the first recording of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN with new vocalist, Greg Puciato! The release is rounded out by tracks from AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, ANODYNE, BURNT BY THE SUN, CONVERGE, THE HOPE CONSPIRACY, PLAYING ENEMY and PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS. 12" version limited to 2500 copies.

After hearing Rise Above tribute I got excited about Black Flag... although getting used to the quite poor sound quality of the original Black Flag records took time...

Well anyway to be honest I'm not very familiar with any of the bands on this tribute, so there was no high expectations, but still it's not really kicking it... They're not as stong and violent as the original versions... Converge and American Nightmare still do a pretty good job. I suggest of buying Rise Above tribute before this (you will contribute to the WM3 case as well).

Tribute cds are normally terrible, but this disc succeeds in 2 ways where virtually all others have failed. 1. The band the tribute is for has enough material that is worthy of a tribute. 2. The bands picked for the tribute are credible, and talented. Not just a big-name star or a who's hot at the moment to sell some records. It's refreshing to hear these bands crank out songs they all probably grew up on. Burnt By The Sun is my clear favorite on here, they surpassed all my expectations.

pretty interesting disc. a small, but suiting variety of bands doing some black flag songs. most of the tracks do the original justice, but there are a couple duds. burnt by the sun, DEP, american nightmare, and planes mistaken for stars steal the show.

Being a big fan of Black Flag, I had been anticipating this tribute for several months, until I received it today. For the most part, I wasn't impressed.

The first four bands, although I might enjoy their original material if I heard it, don't perform their respective Black Flag songs well, and sound like generic post-hardcore bands.

Converge, as always, completely DOMINATES this comp. Their rendition of "Annihilate This Week" is absolutely amazing, and they successfully make it sound chaotic, while maintaining some of the song's original feel. It is by far the best song on this tribute, if not the best cover I've ever heard.

This comp is also the first release featuring The Dillinger Escape Plan's new singer, Greg Puciato. He's a decent singer, but Dimitri, Dillinger's old singer, had a much more fitting voice to the insane guitars, bass, and drums that we've all come to expect from DEP. DEP's songs on this tribute are decent, though.

I'd never heard The Hope Conspiracy before, but they are a pleasant surprise. Planes Mistaken for Stars is decent, but Playing Enemy's version of "Six Pack" is sub-par...

If you're a diehard Black Flag fan, I'd recommend the purchase of this album. Otherwise, don't bother.

Let it be known that I can't stand any of the bands on this cd. I hate screamo or "post hardcore" or any of that shit. But for some reason I LOVE this album. It's fast, mean, and hard. It makes me want to jump from a 20 story bulding, just like original Black Flag does. I totally had written this album off before I had even heard it, but I must say this is EASILY the best tribute album I have ever heard. Highest Recomendation.

Excellent cd a must for any fan of Black Flag or anything hardcore. Best song I think would be hope conpsiracy. But hell the whole cd is damn good. Go out and get a copy to see what I am talking about.
