With some classic influences like The Cars, Squeeze, and The Beach Boys as well as more contemporary artists like Lifetime, The Get Up Kids and Foo Fighters, Brand New has built an energetic, more pop-than-punk sound. Their live show is loud and exciting and it's impossible to stand still when these guys are playing. The harmonies are too clever, the hooks are too catchy and everybody is singing along.
The tunes are simple and strong, obvious teenage anthems about obvious teenage hurt. Still, watch them play and you won't see the grins leave their faces. They love what they do and they do it well. "We never wanted to be the innovative-band, we're just not smart enough." Says Lacey, "We just want to play songs that you want to listen to over and over again, and that kids relate to, and that you can't get out of your head." Mission accomplished. Seems smart enough to me.

this is a great album. not anything like their new one. this is punk with maturity. from the lyrics to the music itself. this is way better than anything else. the songs are appealing right away and stick in your head for hours.

BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!!! THEN GO BUY TAKING BACK SUNDAY!
At first I thought this was gonna be a little too much of the pop/punk variety for my taste, along the same lines as NFG, or worse... Then I gave it a real listen, and wow. It has some of the darkest and suprisingly intelligent lyrics I have ever heard. And none of the songs sound the same... This is a great album, and they do have links to TBS, which has a similar feel and are a little better musically.
