Big Come Up

Alive 44

Released on May 21, 2002

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

This amazing trio from Akron, OH, is formed by Dan Auerbach (Howling and Harmony electric guitar), Gabe Fulvimar (Moog and '60s Casio keyboards) and Patrick Carney (28 inch kick drum, recording laboratory). THE BLACK KEYS produces its own brand of stripped down rock'n'roll that combines Memphis grit, Motor City stomp and Mississippi hollers. Take one guitar, one cheap organ, a broken down drum kit, an empty basement and you've got the bare essentials of what forms THE BLACK KEYS sound. But it ain't that simple. THE BLACK KEYS have it in their heart and in their soul. The nucleus of the band was formed a few years back when Patrick and Dan would record songs on a four track after school. Dan would later make numerous trips to meet and learn from his mentors, spending countless hours in Greenville, MS where he played blues guitar romps in the juke joints with ornery great JAMES "T-MODEL" FORD, sleeping at night on Ford's trailer home floor, dreaming about making music. A dream that is now a reality. The Big Come Up is THE BLACK KEYS' debut album. And a damn good one. Get ready for the BIG GROOVE!

Kent from Alma, MI
Nov 7 2005 Rating: 4/5 Stars

I love the black keys. Im not a big blues fan, but they make it good, but adding a lil alternative in there. This isnt their best cd, but it has a cover of one of my fav. john lennon songs. The newest Keys release "Rubber Factory" is a very fine cd. Its still got that grundgy basement sound, and the songs are terrific. good good stuff.
