A landmark album in the L.A punk scene and very influential in the punk world in general. This is probably some of the more creative and well played (not to mention well recorded) music to come out of that era. Exene Cervenka is my favorite all-time female vocalist and one of my favorite vocalists regardless of gender. The slightly dissonant male/female vocals of Exene and John Doe give this record the very unique and distinctive sound that is X's calling card.Listening to this record I can't help thinking about how great the California scene used to be.Growing up as an NYC teen I obviously listened to all the old school NYHC but also loved everything that came out of California.Cali had it goin' on back in the day.Nowadays it seems like the most popular stuff out west is crap like NOFX or some weak ass pop "punk".X could have pop qualities yet still sound eerie.Don't waste your money on some Epitaph or Fat Wreck garbage. Buy this instead.

Before buying this, i was into bands such as Crass and Aus Rotten, so I've experienced some great female vocalists before, but once i picked this up i was amazed. This is one of the most incredible albums i've ever come across, and i'd rate Exene as high up there as Eve Libertine. Pick this up, its stuff your parents will like too. Also if you're into this, i'd recommend TSOL, of the same era and location, since they both tend to incorporate keyboards into their work. Also, they've both been featured in a Penelope Spheeris film.

X is a really great band. I guess in the mix of all the California punk bands in the early 80's they kind of get overlooked nowadays but I just can't understand why. This is great old school punk with rockabilly influences and keyboards; overall it's very melodic and catchy but it still has an overwhelming amount of raw energy and attitude. Also the duel male & female vocals give it a lot more variety than what you typically find, great lyrics too... Pick it up if you know what's good for you.

X ARE THE FUCKING SHIT!!! this cd is great...possibly thier best work next to wild gift. this is good punk with some rockabilly influences. basically just good music, and thats what it comes down to right? all the rockasilly bands that are out today are trying to mimic this but can never come close...mainly because x are so fucking great. maybe its all the grease in thier head. anyway...the lesson of today? men are just vessels for thier penis's. and manny could go suck a fuck for not liking x. ha ha ha hah ah ah ah
