Reigning Sound

Break Up, Break Down

Sympathy 654

Released on May 22, 2001

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Break Up, Break Down jangles like folk-rock while it ebbs into the shadows and reminisces of unwavering love. It's a story told by THE REIGNING SOUND. It's a story older than you or me. Found love, lost love, and eventual catastrophic emotional breakdown. Sound familiar? The tone of this album is like no other of this decade. It's main composer, Greg Cartwright, is a veteran of the OBLIVIANS & THE COMPULSIVE GAMBLERS but this band and indeed this new record reveal an almost unheard facet of his songwritting. Harmony vocals provided by bass player Jeremy Scott bring to mind a traditional brotherly style of duet singing. THE REIGNING SOUND prove that the phrase "good grief" is not an oxymoron, for indeed it is the story of your life.

Greg Carthwright’s Reigning Sound very first album. A warm folky-soulful low-tempo sound in the vein of Big Star or the Byrds. Miles away from the “Too Much Guitar Sound” but still very good and well crafted songs. A lot more closer to “Home for the Orphans” if you ask me.
