Fat Wreck Chords 631

Released on May 22, 2001

The Renaissance EP isn't just 9 songs. It marks a new beginning, a rebirth of many years to come. As a band MxPx is stronger than they've ever been. This is an interpretation of their first three records may have sounded like if they had recorded the songs at the present time. Done completely DIY down to the artwork for their fans.

After hearing "Ever Passing Moment" I have to say I was worried about the commercial sound this album might have produced.

However the songs on this EP are quite a mix, harking back to the glory days of old. "Lonesome Town" is definitely the best song on here, that song and "Letting Go" could easily be outtakes of "Slowly Going...".

"Time Will Tell" and "Talk Of The Town" sees the band going back to their heavier roots, while "The Opposite", despite having an electric organ still remains a decent song.

All in all a quality punk EP, and well done for not doing any songs over 3 minutes!

MXPX...what else can I say. I've been a fan of theirs for years now. If you like all that commercial shit like Blink-182 and Green Day then I'm sure you will like these guys. One of the best punk bands out there and an awsome album, what more can I say? Joe and Fe, Yokota AB, Japan

It's gonna take a lot from these guys to fix things after this E.P. wow, with exception of Lonesome Town, it blows harded then rosie o'donnel blowing out birthday candles, and this is coming from a hard core mxpx fan. sorry guys im guna be waiting now for your next REAL cd. But hey the Fat Wreck Chords 7" cub record was pretty good but u cant buy that one unless your in the club.

MXPX is one of my favorite bands. This cd can make MXPX become one of yours too. In this cd MXPX have gotten back their old sound, if you like some of MXPX's older cd's like "Pokinatcha" or "Teenage Politics", then "the Renaissance EP" is for you. Get this cd to support them because they put this put for their fans.

Finally a good MXPX release that isn't "Life In General". It you have been somewhat disappointed by the band's recent releases, pick this one up. It sounds more like their older stuff. Hopefully this ep is a sign of good things to come.

Don't write MXPX off as a trendy, poppunk, boy misses girl, FAT band. They are a great punk rock band those who are open-minded enough will hopefully see. This ep was said to sound like old MXPX. Many of the songs sound like "Slowly Going the Way..." songs, which I was told it would not contain. However, the songs are great. I love the simple, catchy riffs, raw production, artwork, the musicianship, everything. These guys are amazing. Worth every dollar.

If you are already a fan of this power trio from Bremerton and you like early releases by MxPx like pokinatcha, teenage politics, and life in general, this is a very good blend resembling the spirit of those albums, some heavy, some pop, some punk... and if you haven't heard these guys this is a good place to start, 9 self produced tracks that show the diversity of this band.
