Internationally-known ska, punk and reggae master King Django’s has toured and recorded extensively as a solo artist, as leader of Skinnerbox and Stubborn All-Stars, and at various times as a member of the Murphy’s Law, Rancid, the Toasters, The Slackers and others. On his pioneering 1998 album, Roots and Culture, Django seamlessly blends his trademark NYC ska, rocksteady, roots reggae and dub sounds with traditional Hebrew folk music and klezmer. This is undeniably the original Jewish ska and reggae album, with lyrics in English, Yiddish and Hebrew, including eight original compositions as well as Yiddish cover versions of Madness’ “Night Boat to Cairo” and the Specials’ “Do Nothing.” Members of Stubborn All-Stars, Skinnerbox, the Toasters, The Slackers, Crazy Baldhead and the New York Ska-Jazz ensemble (including Victor Ruggiero, David Hillyard, Agent Jay and Victor Rice) lay down the deep, traditional Jamaican grooves from mild to wild. Also featuring Klezmer giants Andy Statman and Alicia Svigals (ex-Klezmatics). Recorded at Version City Studio in 1998, remixed and remastered in 2006, this Special Edition features greatly enhanced sound quality plus three bonus tracks.

Almost instantly one of my favorite ska albums. I have a new perspective on King Django, before I wasn't too sure about him, but this stuff is really really impressive. This music is great. Track 12 is worth 10 dollars alone. Very pleased with this purchase, I'd buy it again if anything happened to the disc.
