Miscreants is the new band of former Shai Hulud singer Geert van der Velde. "Welcome the" is Miscreants' self-introduction to the world. A collection of 6 raw and furious metal tracks in the vein of The Haunted, Hatesphere or even Carcass. Lyrically the EP is as dark and richly texturized as any work of literature. van der Velde tackles topics and themes such as 'the (ab)use of language in Religion' (Blood As Spirit), 'technological over optimism' (The Ideal Austere) or even the supremacy of "reason" over "madness" and the marginalization of those who defy it's division (Welcome the Miscreants). Musically WTM bleeds and breathes energy. It's memorable riffs and choruses will make you want to put the record on again and again while it's lyrics and them will keeping you chanting along and intellectually demanding more! Add it all up and you have one head banging, fist pumping and socially rebellious beast of a record.

This is Shai Hulud singer's (Geert van der Velde) new project. It sounds a lot more aggressive than his previous work with Shai Hulud. Also, the guitar melodies contribute to creating a gloomy/doom metal atmosphere. "Blood as Spirit" is probably the strongest track on the album. There aren't any weak songs, but they kind of sound the same, which would be my only complaint about this CD. As for the lyrics, they are typical of der Velde, i.e. expressing an uttermost misanthropy towards mankind. To conclude, this is a great metalcore album. Be on the lookout for a future full-length CD.

For fans of From Ashes Rise, Purified in Blood, Rise and Fall, Trap Them & Tragey.
