Scared Of Chaka

Scared Of Chaka

This was the best record on 702, until these guys released the "How to Lose" 10-inch. Recorded in a basement in Albuquerque for $350, this record has the best sound of any of SOC's releases to date. Fuckin' Joey said: "the fuckin' record of the fuckin' year! I don't eat, I don't sleep, I don't work, I don't fuck -- I haven't even fuckin' jerked off. I'll never write another fuckin' song again." Is that enough for you? SOC plays fast powerful melodic garagey punk rock in the vein of THE DICKIES. Check it out!

I have liked Scared of Chaka ever since I saw them perform around 1998. Their Empty Records release "Masonic Youth" is an all time favorite of mine. This is an early offering from them and I'm not getting into it much at the moment. Try some of their other records first.

This is my favorite release from Scared of Chaka. It's not like their new stuff, it's more poppy then distorted. But this is just a great cd, the only thing is that it's eighteen minutes long. Oh well, if you don't have this then may GOD have mercy on your soul.

Great release. Its more of an EP, 9 originals and an Elvis Costello cover. Fast, raw garage punk. Lost of good meoldies and hooks that will ring inside your head for days! If you are just starting out with Chaka I would suggest "Crossing With Switchblades" or "How to Lose EP", but none the less this is cool music! These guys makes Blink 182 and all this new pop-punk crap look like fabricated boy bands! Great garage-pop for real punk fans!
