Nakatomi Plaza

Private Property

Gunboat 3

Released on June 15, 2001

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

This is the new record from this screamy and poppy 4 piece band from Brooklyn, NY. There are 7 very dynamic songs here, ranging from the blood curdling screams of "Consider this a Hostile Takeover" to the frustrated melancholy of "Next Bus to New Orleans". These kids have toured the US and Canada, and always rock uber hard.

Dec 18 2001 Rating: 3/5 Stars

This release by Nakatomi Plaza proved to be a lot better than their "Chester Copperpot" debut album. Production with Gunboat didn't get across Nakatomi's full sound though, as did in the debut with BD Records which was awful. Here, however, the production is a tiny bit better, although not by much. The breakdowns sound great, and the occasional vocal screamage tops the cake very well, but what about the emphasis on the guitars and bass? The songs are excellent but the production really downgraded this to a "three-rating." Could've been a four, or maybe even a five, but Gunboat Records really didn't take these guys seriously. Hope to see them sign on to a label that WILL take them seriously in the near future. One thing I noticed also is that you have to turn up the volume on your CD player a bit more than usual (unlike other CD's). Kind of "low-fi"-ish, but all in all, Nakatomi Plaza is the shit! Extremely unique emoppy sound coming from this talented Brooklyn outfit. Give it a try. It's only a few bucks. Also check out the split 7" they released with the emo punk band, Latterman. Another great 4-piece from New York.
