I got this CD about, let's a week ago...at first i was, to say it nicely, shocked. You see, i have emery's 2nd CD, "The Question", and i love it. This CD was different, and it was that difference that made me not like it at first. Then a few days ago, while actually paying attention to the CD, while driving of course, i figured it out.
I LOVE THIS CD, it is pure emery! This cd could be deemed childish, b/c you do recognize while listening to the cd that this is there first album. You notice that at times there seems to be too much going on, which distracts from certain songs altogeter. While, yes they do seem to over do it, AT TIMES. The are times on this cd when it all comes together so perfectly, that you become somewhat...hypnotized.
ATTN!! if your deciding between which two emery CD's to buy BUY THIS ONE FIRST...it is amazing, and it will make you enjoy the second one, a million times more...beleive me.
and before i end this...i have to say that 'As your voice fades' is the BEST (period). BEST song on this CD...i mean it starts out slow...tones out...then wham 'WHY DID YOU DIE?'. Other favorites whould include Bloodless and Disguising Mistakes With Goodbyes.
Buy it...thats it

one of my favourite cds. ever. no lies. Emery is such an inspirational band! if you're one of thos sXe shit heads who thinks that "christian hardcore" has to be one way, definately pick this album up. it'll set you straight. Christian hardcore is just like any other hardcore band.
except emery is better than any other hardcore band.

Brillant!
What a great album...the best I've heard since Full Collapse. Perfect if you're into emo, emocore, etc etc you know, stuff like that. It really deserves 5 stars! Certainly in my top cds, with old thursday and thrice's stuff, poison the well, beautiful mistake, throwdown, coldplay, brand new, etc...«---for fans of these.
all my cds I have commended to Interpunk, the pocket is cracked...I don't know what do the custom officers
Anyway, by no doubt Walls is the best song on this first release for Emery. I could also say that this is the more agressive one. I cannot stop listen to it. Anyway, all others are very cool, relax, and violent in parts. Screams are not excessive and just well situated in songs.
Track two is well good too, but I don't know why people seems to enjoy it more than others.
Track 3 has a little metal riff at the beginning and it's cool (even if I hate metal...). Screams are crazy like helllll!
By all acounts is one of my favorite. Starts with a catchy gutiar riff and a good duo singing. Also, an incredible ending, lot of emotion.
Fractions is absolutely terrific! Give it a try, you'll see. I'm really excited about seeing them this summer at Warped Tour.
Track 6 has nothing ordinary, but hey! it's Emery!
Track 7 is much more impressive than the sixth. Many screams on this one, and sometimes with clapping:). Funny emo!!
song 8 is good too
nine is very great! Ups and downs, similar to Beautiful Mistake. I thimk there's also a woman's voice on it (like a song I can't remember from Taking back sunday, on their first album).
Finally, The Secret is maybe the saddest song on this album. Nice for sleeping time!
Can't wait their next album... Enjoy!

Im sorry but this is a late review because i totally spaced on writing one. Anyway, Emery is an encredible band and this CD is amazing. This dynamic and beautiful debut album is deffinately one of the top 5 albums of 2004. Emery sets themselves apart from most bands these days with better musicianship and just better music all together. I would give it 6 stars if i could but i guess 5 will do. If you don't already own this release, it is a most buy.

this album is fucking great. not a lot of bands can compare to emery. how can't you respect a band that has 3 guitars on top of the standard drum, bass and keyboards. love the keyboards. hardcore, emotional, christian (yet not christian - if you catch my drift) rock. screaming in your face, tearing your heart out, and doing it with more grace than anyone could ever. key tracks are: walls, ponytail parades, under serious attack and as your voice fades. rock out.

this album is much better than the new taking back sunday or my chemical romance stuff imho. so if you like emocore, emo/hardcore or whatever, with melodic and screaming parts, buy this. one of the best cds of 2004. standout tracks: walls, the ponytail parades, fractions, as your voice fades.

I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I got caught up in the initial hype of this band. They should change the title to "Weakest S*** Ever". Not as bad as some crap I've heard. But not good either.

this album is kinda weird for me. it starts off really strong with two awesome songs, but drags quite a lot. I love their style and i think they have real potential, but i'll be holding my breath before i purchase their next one.
