With the new year comes good news, in the form of a new DESCENDENTS full length! Originally formed as a three-piece, the then boys, got the idea that adding a singer to the mix would be a good plan. History was made when the trio recruited the brainy and bespectacled frontman Milo Aukerman and the band released their breakthrough EP entitled Fat. What goes around comes around and 2004 finds the Descendents releasing their new full length, Cool To Be You on FAT! Since their inception, the fellas have all worked on different side projects, most of them musical, however latecomer and frontman Milo has long been hard at work in the world of academia, finally ending up employed as a Scientist! Lucky for punk rock fans Milo has traded in his microscope for the microphone and the punk scene can expect a triumphant return from the DESCENDENTS. Cool To Be You is 14 new songs that will undoubtedly wet the appetite of the starving scene, and is easily superior to their most recent and most commercially successful release: 1996's Everything Sucks. That was the album that got the DESCENDENTS the respect they deserved as they could be seen and heard in heavy rotation on the radio and on MTV. And now that Milo has once again forsaken the petri dish, we now anxiously await the release of another punk rock classic: Cool To Be You out March 23rd!

Not the best album from The Descendents, but I still gave it 5 stars because, well, it's the Descendents. A lot of people are dogging this album. Sure, it's a little "softer", which could be interpreted as poppy, but it's still got the same stuff as other releases from these guys. And don't forget; these guys can put out whatever they want because, they're The Descendents. They've been defining punk rock since you were suckin' on the tit. So don't hate... love it for what it is. Good punk rock.

These old guys can sure make some great tunes. This is no exception. The newest release from the Descendents is not their worst, and not their best, and not somewhere in between. In my opnion it is the same as everything sucks, and not as good as Milo or I dont Wanna Grow Up. This cd has the first 2 Descendents songs I heard (Merican and Nothing With You).Highlights include "Merican","Cool to be You","Nothing With You","Mass Nerder","Talking" and "Dry Spell". The Bass is insane on this album. Dont get it first, get Milo First, but this is a great cd to have in your collection. 5 stars

This is the first descendents CD i've ever bought. I usually just listen to some of their stuff online. I think this was money well spent. Most of these songs are really good. My personal favorites are talking, nothing with you, one more day, tack, and dry spell. And the rest are pretty good, none of these songs are really bad. I'd recommend this to anybody who wants to check out the descendents.

The Descendents are a classic punk band that I started listening to in the late '80s. With the departure of Milo Aukerman back around 1987 the then current lineup, (the band had experienced some lineup changes since their beginning), continued on by changing the band's name to All and working with different vocalists over the years since. All released albums that really did not differ much from the Descendents formula other than that the focus might have been a little more on the melodic songs and tighter grooves. Years later the band would again team with Milo and release a new Descendents album entitled 'Everything Sucks' in late 1996. This move, and the fact that they also played on the Warped Tour during the summer of 1997, introduced the Descendents to a whole new generation of fans.
The band has continued making All albums since that time, but they finally re-teamed with Milo again and released 'Cool To Be You' in 2004. It was great to finally get another release from the Descendents, and I believe that this album sounds as good as any of their past efforts. It also finds the band evolving somewhat in their style and approach.

My name's Josh. Believe it or not, this is the first Descendents album I bought. I know, I know, I'm a little late, but I've heard their music a number of times so I finally decided to buy one. It's very good and I'm sure plenty of the people that reviewed it agree with me, yet they'll swear until they go to the grave that they hate Green Day, Blink 182, or MXPX. These are the people that are hypocrites. All three of those bands were influenced a lot by the Descendents. Let's face it, the Descendents were where punk started to get more mainstream because they got better and better. Music is music and whoever says otherwise is an idiot. I absolutely hate country and I can't stand most rap, but I don't care if people listen to it. It's their own preference. People are always putting down Green Day or Blink 182 as too "poppy" or "selling out" which is ridiculous. Listen to this album or Everything Sucks and then listen to Blink 182's Enema of the State or Green Day's Dookie. They were clearly influenced and play the same kind of music. Yes, Blink 182's new album was a little weak, but not because it was bad. Only because it was a huge step in a different direction for the band. They changed their whole formula from bratty immature ranting to clear cut "we've grown up" music, which is fine. I didn't enjoy it as much as all of their others only because it was so different, but it's not bad. And for Green Day, they get accused of selling out all the time. You tell me, if you were offered tons of money to do the same thing you've been doing for nothing, would you do it? The answer is yes. Their new CD, American Idiot, was called one of the best albums in the last 10 years. Tell me that isn't good. Just because they got popular does not mean they've sold out. Their music is still as gripping as ever and a great example of one of the most influential bands to date. There is no such thing as a bad CD. Someone will fall in love with every CD ever made. Music is music. Get over it. With that said, sorry about the preaching. This is a great CD. I'd have to say 'Merican is my favorite track because it points out all of the obvious flaws in our country that people choose to ignore. If you like the Descendents or any band like Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41, MXPX, or Alkaline Trio, pick it up.

I've been waiting 7 years to hear this one. wow! it's been a long time but this CD is well worth this long wait. must be one of the best releases this year. the DESCENDENTS prove that growing up doesn't always mean growing old, and we ain't growing tired of that nerdy punk-rock! this is a must-have to everyone who likes ALL and more recent DESCENDENTS' meterial. not a single bad track on this album. a definitive well-worth buy.

I was really disappointed in this cd. When the ep came out I thought this cd would be something special. To bad they put all the good songs on the ep besides dry spell. Not creative enough and to much singing about girls. There alot older now and there music should show that but it doesn't.In my opinion not worth buying but hey if you want to buy a good descendents cd buy everything sucks or their first band All's, greatest hits cd.
