The last time 88 Fingers Louie graced any stage with their presence was back in 1999. Over the past 10 years, there were countless requests for them to get back together and play again for their die-hard fans just one more time.
They decided to appease those fans and set up their reunion show at the Bottom Lounge in their home town of Chicago. On August 15, 2009, they played a 26-song set to a sold out crowd, and they captured the show, in it's entirety, in order to release this 78-minute live CD, entitled "Lives."
Fans swarmed from all over the United States, Canada, England, and even Australia. Original guitarist, Dan Precision, recorded, mixed, and mastered this live CD and truly captured the intense energy from both on and off the stage.
88 Fingers Louie felt that it was best for one of their own to perform these duties to seize the true sound that helped bring about their popularity.
The live lineup consisted of founding members Denis Buckley (vocals) and Dan Precision (guitars), as well as John Carroll (who was the last 88 drummer and played on "Back on the Streets" and the "Kid Dynamite Split"). John Contreras took up the bass to fill in for founding member Joe Principe (Rise Against). As a special treat to the fans, 88 Fingers Louie invited their second drummer, Glenn Porter (Alkaline Trio), to join them on stage for 4 songs.
It was truly and night to remember and now it will be accessible to all of those who couldn't take part in that part of 88 history.

Considering this was an Interpunk exclusive and I always did want to pick this up, I figured it was finally time to get it. I only played it once and I think I would personally rather hear the songs on the actual albums (I have a few of them and they are a lot more visceral sounding) there is absolutely no denying that there is some tremendous joy hearing these guys reunite for a special show in Chicago. They are all a bit older now too, so while it may be a little mellower the cd is still very enjoyable.
The guys were clearly having fun being on stage and it really was great when Glenn Porter got on the stage to drum some songs. I'm not going to flood this with hey remember when some of these guys moved onto Rise Against and they were cooler at one point? Point made. It's 5 stars easy even if the songs don't all have their original intensity. Get this album and enjoy a fantastic live performance.
The liner note is simple, but that art is great and there is a note from Denis as well. Thanks 88FL!

I was at this show. It was an awesome show. It was at the Bottom Lounge which has great acoustics. I was very excited to hear they were releasing a live recording of this show. It has great sound quality, and they play an even better set. For all the people who think they are not the same without Joe, push that thought out of your head right now. It is the same band without him and you cannot even tell he is not there. This band means a great deal to me due to the fact Behind Bars was the first punk rock record I ever heard when it came out. When the CD starts out with Pent Up, it will bring a tear of joy to your eye.
Long live 88!

What else is there to say except that 88 Fingers Louie was/is the shit. They play all the good songs they need to. It's obvious they haven't played them in a while however. Sweet artwork as well. A must for any 88fl fan
