Horse The Band

R. Borlax

Pluto 19

Released on September 23, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Coming out of Lake Forest, CA, HORSE the band has been many people’s favorite little secret since their inception. Originating the sound already coined as “Nintendo-core”, they've built a sizable fan base by just being dedicated and creative.

With this incredible new record, they have broken down the walls between the incessant labeling of sub-genres within heavy music, and hand us something sure to entertain anyone.

This is a great band with an original sound. It's like playing video games and listening to metal with the volume from both the cd player and the t.v. turned way up. Some of the riffs are just downright funny sounding, in a good way. You'll like this if you like fast and metalish punk with a keyboardist who didn't mature past '92(again, in a good way.) The only downside of this cd is the fact that many kids will do that weird 'punch-and-kick' hardore dance bullshit to it. If ypu just read that and thought to yourself 'hey thats good dance moves' please punch and kick dance yourself in your genitals so that no other creature of your blood line will piss everyone else off at shows who are trying to have a good time. Let me guess, i'm a bitch because i don't kick and punch dance right? you'll never get it, fuck you.

Pretty good CD. I had already listened some songs on it before buying it. Cutsman is sick and so is bunnies. The others song all have something special in it. You will like it after a few listening. The first time it's wierd but I guess it's normal because Horse The Band is something pretty much unique. Not a must but still a great buy!

Bands like Horse The Band are what make hardcore a worthwhile scene in which to participate. No one questions the heart and sincerity of Bane, Champion, or Death Threat, but the creativity and take-some-chances spirit of Horse and their odd contemporaries are what keep this genre from getting stale. On "R. Borlax," they do something that, aside from possibly The Locust, no other marquee hardcore band does: they write songs around the musical concept of keyboards. It seems as though, on the majority of the songs, the other musicians listened to what the keyboardist had come up with and riffed around it; to me, that's pretty fucking cool. Sure, this record is not perfect; the mix is a little muddy, the drums are a tad sloppy, and some of the arrangements are a bit awkward. But you know what? This makes no difference, and here's why: Horse The Band takes more creative chances and attempts to do more in 34 minutes than most hardcore bands will ever attempt in their entire catalogue. That merits a 5 in my book.

horse "the band" is awesome..the vocals are terrible..if this album had a better vocalist or even done as an instrumental it would be golden. the keys are awesome, the guitar work it simple, but at times surprsingly catchy. goes perfect with the keys...its just the damn vocals, i hope that in time that they will grow on me, its just at parts its so hard to focus on how awesome the band is when you have this friutcake on the mic. think system of a down vocals, but worse..and thats hard to do...its still worth it though..i would give it a 5..

This cd is really random but that's how I knew it was and that's why I got it. "Cutsman" and "Bunnies" are some stand out tracks on the cd. I've loved most of the album before I got it but now looking at the lyrics WOW joke band gone good? I think so. I hope to see these guys perform in the future. Their a fun band and different but the cd doesn't go above and beyond.

This CD is awesome. Lets just put it this way, If you like the music in the video game Zelda, and lots of screaming, you will probably like this. Really fast paced and with blood curdling screams, you just can't go wrong. They even have excellent technical playing ability. It also has a scene from Mulholland Drive, which just makes this CD even weirder than it already is. Basically the whole CD is good from start to finish. It's a fun time.
