Wesley Willis

Daddy Of Rock 'N Roll

"God gave me this rock career to keep me busy. Back in 1991 I used to hit old people with folding chairs. Suddenly, I moved to the north side of Chicago, Illinois in 1992. It made a rock star out of me at last. IÆm the daddy of rock 'n' roll! I'm Wesley Willis, I'm 36 years old. I play music and do art. I have schizophrenia. I have chronic schizophrenia. Roger Lee Carpenter asked me for $600. He told me that if I donÆt give him $600, he was going to blow my brains out. That's when I started hearing demons. I have three demons: Nervewrecker, Heartbreaker, and Meansucker....I yell, I scream, I holler at people on buses".

This DVD is a great look at the life of someone who, while forgotten by the world, did what made him happy despite a crippling mental disease. His music is awesome and he was an awesome person. It's a terrible shame he died so early, but hopefully this will reach people and inspire them to do something with their own lives. R.I.P. Wesley Willis. I'll bet he's in heaven whoopin' Christopher Reeves' ass right now. Rock over London, Rock on Chicago...Wesley Willis: The Daddy of Rockandroll!

Wow, this was a really really cool view into the life of one of the nicest people i had ever met. It was great to see all the people he encountered in his daily life and where he came from.

Wesley might not be with us today, but his music will always live on. Rock over London, Rock on Chicago... you know the rest.

Utterly fascinating doccumentary on the late, great rock legend's life. I bought it shortly after hearing about his untimely death, figured it was the best thing I could do since I don't know of any Chicago floral shops, but anyway...the DVD is totally captivating as it chronicles Wes's daily bus excursions; his door-to-door salesmenlike venture of Chitown's indie record circuit selling his discs, interviews and insights from Wes's "wranglers", as well as some insight to his schizophernia, his three demons, and the origins of the differences between a "HELLRIDE" and a "JOYRIDE", among other delights such as Wesley seeking inspiration for his bestiality songs at the local zoo. (Best bit: Watch a deleted scene of Wes at the zoo watching an elephant "baking brownies". The apalled look on Wes's face with his exclamation of "That elephant is taking a shit! Oh, hell no!" will provide for hours of amusement. A truly fascinating testament to a great artist gone too soon. R.I.P. Wesley, Rock over London, rock on Chicago...Diet Pepsi, uh-huh!!!
