Less Than Jake

Anthem

WEA 48459

Released on May 20, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Less Than Jake has been one of punk's favorite bands for a decade. Thanks to incessant touring (200-plus dates annually, including with Green Day, No Doubt, Blink 182, and A.F.I.) and multiple record releases, the punk'n'horns group has built a phenomenal cult following. Voted Indie Band of the Year by Kerrang! Gainsville, Florida's Less Than Jake flies the banner of the New Punk South with it's album Anthem.

This was my first Less Then Jake CD and still my favorite. Songs like "plastic cup politics" and "the science of selling yourself short" blow me away. every time I hear them I must sing along. If you are new to less then jake I recomend you get this cd cause its a little more popy then their others.

they have changed a bit the horns arent arounf that much anymore and some of there songs actually hit you with a message instead of just leaving you like woo good catchy song like "escape from and a-bomb house" its a great song not like less than jakes stuff but it is a great song i liked it but that just cuz im a fan but hey you might not like it so its your choice but its a great CD!

i was pleasantly suprised by this release. i thought they might drop the horns or lose the sound we have came to know them by but its all still here and doesn't seem to be going away.

This is Less Than Jake's worst album. But that doesn't make it bad, it is really good, but not great. The problem is that there is not enough horns. I mean, how does the first track of a ska CD not have any horns in it? What's up with that! Also, The "She's Gonnea Break Soon" video removes all of the horns from the entire song, and it really sucks. Perhaps, this video has no horns in it because it was all over MTV and ska is just not mainstream enough. Another problem is that there is also no swearing on the entire album. Now, I'm not a man for swearing, but all of their other albums have cursing and maybe, just maybe Waner Bros. wouldn't allow any swearing to make Less Than Jake more marketable. So, I guess that I am saying that Less Than Jake sold out. But, hey "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" and "Plastic Cup Politics are really awsome songs, and that makes this album a 4. But if Less Than Jake reads this I want them to know that they still rule and I still love them in a hedrosexual sort of way. -Will

It's a great cd if you're just getting to know Less Than Jake. For old school fans it probably sucks a little. Mainly because they don't use horns that much and Roger sings most of the songs. It also doesn't have the same energy and feeling like on hello rockview and losing streak except for a few songs. Be sure to check out short fuse burning, the science of selling yourself short and plastic cup politics. Those songs rule. I still give it four stars because Less Then Jake fucking rocks ! If you get the chance to see them live, go and skank your life away !

Do not listen to the below reviews, they are dead wrong. This cd was a complete waste of money. It is not the rockin', horn-filled LTJ that we have all come to know and sing along to. Be sure to sample at least half of the cd before buying it. That's something I wish I had done before instead of just buying the record, which I thought would be solid. Check out Losing Streak, Hello Rockview, and Borders & Boundaires before wasting money on this cd. LTJ went for a completely different sound and came up short.

Great CD, if you've liked LTJ from the beginning then definitely get this album of theirs. It's well worth the purchase, take my word on that.

Nothing new or special here. For some reason, Less Than Jake decided to ignore their horns on this cd. And when they do put them in, it sounds forced. I still like this cd, but Less Than Jake went the safe route with this one. Good music, but not as good as one would expect from LTJ.
