Neil Perry

Lineage Situation

Level Plane 51

Released on July 29, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

In the late 1990's a new kind of noise was rumbling beneath the suburbs of Central New Jersey. The era of Jersey's infamous tough straight-edge scene had come and gone and a lot of the prototypical screamo bands from the area were on their last legs. Enter NEIL PERRY. With songs that would blast through you in less than a minute and disembowel your psyche with tantrum-stirring guitars and maniacal drum patterns, a new standard was set in the Garden State. This double CD collects everything this now-infamous band has recorded and adds four brand new unreleased tracks to the fray. If you mixed San Diego with Slap-a-Ham, you might be close.. Take a seat and tape down the valuables.

I was recommended Neil Perry off of a message board I frequently visit, and after listening to the song "Nine Minutes of Non Fiction", I wasted no time in buying this album.

Well, needless to say, the rest of the album doesn't stand up to the greatness of the opening song. There seems to be too much filler throughout the whole album.

Granted, I only listened to the album three times through. I'm sure if I give it time, it will grow on me. But as of now, I am not too impressed.

40 songs in about 55 minutes sounds like it's not worth getting this discography, but if you want something fresh and something that shreds than pick this up. Half of the songs are probably under a minute long, but there are also songs in the 3 to 4 minute range. I haven't heard so many good riffs on 1 CD in a long time, and the melodies and chaotic vocals are also pulled off very well. If Orchid, Saetia, and You and I are bands you like than definately get Neil Perry.

wow i totally forgot i could review this and now i have like 5 days left to do this. this cd had to crow on me, id best compare to forstella ford with 30 second songs and a slight grind influence. im not a big fan of the first couple of songs, but i like the shorter ones and the longer ones i enjoy are "sorry the misunderstanding mr. watts" "fading away like the rest of them" "shit blows up... its so good" what is in the making is probably the best song of the cd. buy it if you like screamo ala forstella ford and the assistant. fucking sweet shit.

These guys rocked the scene when they are around. There are some fucking awesome tracks here, starting out with newer ones they recorded that are great. They are the master of the one-minute song, and making it actually mean something. Pick it up if you are into Joshua Fit For Battle, Textbook Traitors, Welcome The Plague Year, all those good guys. I strongly recommend this to anyone a fan of screamo-esque music (if you want to call it that). It says it comes with a bonus DVD, but it's more of a .avi file on a CD-ROM. It has all this fottage from their tours and some of their shows. It's decent quality too.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I have never heard something so melodic yet so hard at the same instant. If this cd was released with only the first 7 tracks it would still make my top ten list of the year. Think Joshua Fit For Battle instrumentals (but better) and Welcome the Plague Year vocals and you might get the idea. I'm having quite the difficult time formulating my thoughts into words to review this cd...so just go out and buy it already. Oh and the two videos on disc 2 are pretty sweet, especially the 32 minute live/touring work of art, and the studio drumming segment. Oh, and one more thing - listen to these guys' improv jams on the video...brilliant.

Great band, this complete discography really shows the diversity and growth of the band over time. The songs recorded in 2003 are absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best releases of the year.

Wow this cd is a great timeline for the now defunct screamo band. The new songs recorded for this cd are by far the best and have awesome production. The second cd is a cd-rom with two video files. One is of them in the studio and the other is various life shows and just joking around on the road. The total time of these two files is about 35 minutes so it a great bonus. Also the packaging is superb, but what else would you expect from Level Plane? A definate great buy.

I was really impressed with this release (and the 2nd disc is a CD-Rom, not a DVD). It's a shame the new songs on here are some of their best work, since they were made after they broke up. This band is responsible for that new emo sound from 1998. While I do enjoy their longer songs more, they were great at making something out of a 50 second song. The song titles are great too. The CD-Rom is a nice bonus for fans. Only problem I have is that there was no insert, and it wouldn't have hurt to say which tracks were from which recordings. Other than that, the packaging is nice. Another great release from Level Plane, and one of the best releases you'll get this year.

Favorite songs: Nine Minutes Of Non Fiction, I'm Sad For You, and September 15th...
