Suicide Machines

A Match And Some Gasoline

Side One Dummy 71238

Released on June 17, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

The Suicide Machines are back with their fifth full-length record, and their first on Side One Dummy. "A Match and Some Gasoline" not only matches the intensity and creativity of their first two records, which have become a staple of their live show; it takes that intensity a step further. Whether fans are paying attention to the Suicide Machines' potent political messages or equally potent hardcore melodies, it's undeniable that "A Match and Some Gasoline" is the kind of album that is essential listening.

After a stream of sub-par albums (and that's being generous), the Suicide Machines made a great comeback by going back to their roots. In other words, less pop, more punk. If you liked Destruction By Definition or War Profiteering, you will definitely like this album. If you are more of a fan of their self-titled album or even Battle Hymns, you may not like this heavier sound. I recommend this album for Ska-Core/Punk fans. If you like Operation Ivy or Against All Authority, this may be your speed. It's a great album with a great message and is actually my favorite of all of their albums. Here is the breakdown... If you don't own a Suicide Machines album, go buy Destruction by Definition and this one. Those are essential. After that, use your own judgment on which other albums of theirs to buy, if any.

The cd kicks ass and if your SM fan who still hasn't gotten it yet, you must get it now! All the songs are good but a few of them may be the type you have to listen for awhile to get into.

OK..this is a step in the right direction for the Suicide Machines after some real horrible outings. This is the kind of songs they used to write. Its a good album, but nothing compares to there first two. However if you liked the first two (like me) this is probably worth picking up.

Suicide Machines are Awesome. If you like the suicide machines at all you should get this CD. THis CD is way better than their two previous crappy CD's. That is why I wasn't sure if I should buy this CD. I am glad they are back to their original style of music. It isn't quite as good as Destruction by Definition but still great. The only reason it isn't as good as Destruction by definition is it has some hardcore songs which are just okay. The ska songs on this CD are AWESOME! I'll say this again, if you like the suicide machines at all get this CD NOW!

If you are expecting another Destruction by Definition or Battle Hymns forget it - those days are long gone. However, this is one of those albums that you rip onto your computer, combine it with a few selections from the self titled album (I know everyone hates that album - didn't I hear one of those songs in a car commercial?) ... anyway, you throw in a little Operation Ivy and something off the Suicide Machines' first two albums and you've got a pretty good cd. When I listen to this cd (trying to appreciate it more) at times I don't know if I'm listening to the Suicide Machines, Raised Fist, the Offspring, or 311. If you really like Suicide Machines, get this album. If not, get Destruction by Definition and Battle Hymns. Then you will really like Suicide Machines, so you'll buy this album. Got it?

Ah, the Suicide Machines... This is a topnotch release. TOPNOTCH. So is Destruction By Definition. But you already knew that, or perhaps you didn't, but if that be the case, go ahead and punch yourself in the face right now. That's it, go on. Alright then.

it was a breath of fresh air to hear the “real” suicide machines again. it isn’t as good as destruction by definition or battle hymns but still it is fast punk rock with ska-core and a some political lyrics thrown in. the best songs are the hardcore songs like burning in the aftermath, your silence, and beat my head against the wall. the ska songs are good but nowhere as good as the ones on d.b.d. the scoustic song at the end is really good for an acoustic song. do yourself a favor and pick up this cd.

Finally, The Suicide Machines are back and they play ska again. Their over their pop stage(even though it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be) and are turning out Hardcore ska songs again. This is what the follow up to Battle hymns should of been. If you have Destruction By Definition or Battle Hymns this cd is like that but more political and a tad more hardcoreness going on. It's really an fast paced cd thats intelligence is overlooked by it's speed. Highlights are Did You Ever Get The Feeling Of Dread, Split The Time, and Politics Of Humanity.
