Released on March 9, 2010

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

One of music’s premier pop punk bands, Four Year Strong, are set to release their heavily anticipated third full length album, Enemy of the World.

With influences like Lifetime, Saves the Day, Gorilla Biscuits, and New Found Glory, FYS has always strived to create music that they themselves would enjoy as listeners. Their motivation has manifested itself in a fluid mix of everything from punk pop to hardcore to indie rock.

My first impression: When I first got Enemy of the World, I listened through most of the songs. I would listen up through the 1st chorus, then decide to keep listening or skip to the next one. And after my initial run-through, I thought, “Oh no. There’s only like 4...maybe 4 1/2 good songs on here.” The standouts -initially- were “It Must Really Suck To...”, “What the Hell is a Gigawatt?”, “Enemy of the World”, and “Find My Way Back.”

Well, 9 days later(when I wrote this review), I realized I love this album! It’s been many years since I’ve found an album this good throughout. I’m going to give a mini-review for each song below (or the first 4 at least).

The bottom line: The great thing about this album is that even on the weaker tracks, there is something about the song that will grab you, something either musically and/or lyrically. In my opinion there are 4 “weaker tracks” on this album, but even on those, the lyrics are just…well, they’re either about standing strong, or they’re just sang/yelled/screamed so awesomely, that you can‘t help but be sucked in. To be truthful, it might not even matter what they’re singing, because they do it with such passion and conviction. And I think you’ll know what I’m talking about if you listen carefully to this album. In the end, maybe that’s what makes this album so appealing: because they did not just play; you can tell they crafted their music, using heart and soul.

I give this album five stars from the album artwork alone! I mean, besides the epic band caracatures, it has a robotic shark with a rifle stuck to its head! That's what punk is all about. Plus, the songs are great. It hits the sweet spot between melodic and hard punk for me, and FYS shreds out a pretty decent variety of songs. Are you still reading this? Go buy now.

This is a really good CD. At the moment I like it just as much as Rise or Die Trying. I like every song on the CD. The standouts in my opinion are It Must Really Suck to be Four Year Strong Right Now, What the Hell is a Gigawatt?, and Paul Revere's Midnight Ride. Good pop-punk with a twist of hardcore.
