A bit of a surprise, I bought this expecting to like only a small handful of songs, or as a collection piece since it has Against Me! and Taking Back Sunday on it, two bands that I really love.
What is surprising is that I really enjoy almost every song on this CD. Against Me! turns in the best song on the CD with their cover of The Replacements' here comes a regular. Their singer adding a kind of hoarse pain to the lyrics and Taking Back Sunday's cover of You Wreck Me is as you would expect fun fast and energetic. Other surprises come from Adam Sandlar, the funny man turns in a serious cover of Like a Hurriane which acctuall sounds like he put in a lot of effort to make it soulful. Michelle Branch with the cover of a case of you is also really good. Avenged Sevenfold puts out a formulaic cover of Black Sabbath but you really can't go wrong with the song.
It's not a perfect CD. Disturbed makes a horrible appearance here but I am not a fan of Disturbed ... in fact I quite dislike them so maybe my opinion of the song is a bit tainted.
Really I would give this a 3.5 or a 3.8 because it deserves more than a halfway but not quite a 4.
