Somehow I always end up buying Emery cds at interpunk.com and after the dissapointing "Im only a man" I hesitated at picking this one up. Emery had been heading down a path of more of a rock-based influence than the post-hardcore they had started with on the amazing "Weak's End"
But since it's a cheap EP and reviews have been solid I bought and boy am I a happy and surprised Emery fan. Not only do you get a great CD from top to bottom you get information on how the CD was recorded how the songs came to be what the writing processes were. (A solid reminder of why liner notes are awesome) Futher more on the info on the last song they write a note that says something that I have been feeling for a while. That kids are not listening to bands they are listening to songs. An ipod list of one song per band is a sad sad state of affairs, in mine and apparently the bands opinion. And this gives me a newfound respect for the band as both musicians and as people.
The music is solid, the sounds/lyrics incredible. My only complaint is that I have to wait for their new CD "In Shallow Seas We Sail" for more of this.

it is albums like this that makes one fall in love with a band al oveer again. i had fallen out with emery. this ep is just amazing. i really don't know what i was thinking. i like how they use josh a little more on this ep. he could easily front his own band but instead he keeps trucking with emery. his vocals are best showcased on edge of the world. i am so ready for a new full-length. but until then this will hold me over.

I love this band. They continually blow me away with what they do. I needed to force myself to listen to something else so I wouldn't get burned out on it. This release is not something you'd expect after hearing "I'm Only A Man" it's more in the vein of "The Question." Emery is a must see band. Seeing Emery live clearly shows how much passion and drive they have to make music and connect with the audience. In short, buy this cd and go to their show when they come through town.

This is an awesome CD! emery is definately one of the most talented bands that i listen to, and this cd simply helps me prove my beliefs in that. the booklet is filled with info on how each song and even the album was made and/or where it originated, so its has a very raw feel in knowing how it all went down. some slow songs, some fast songs, very good mix.
