Paint It Black

New Lexicon

Jade Tree 1126

Released on February 19, 2008

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

It's gritty, thunderous, and ugly, just the way hardcore punk should be. "New Lexicon" marks the band's first recording with new drummer Jared Shavelson (Hope Conspiracy, None More Black) and boasts guest vocals from Jeff Pezatti (Naked Raygun). An aggressive clarity with a thick low-end up front (think Bad Brains' Roir sessions). Feedback, bass booms, and cymbal crashes are twisted into haunting ambient interludes and serpentine waves trailing behind the buzz saw riffs. Fifteen songs clocking in at 30 minutes, 26 seconds. RIYL: Bad Brains, Black Flag, Kid Dynamite, Modern Life Is War, Nirvana.

What i love about Paint It Black albums is that you hardly need to use the skip button. you listen to the cd from start to finish. They never back down on their hardcore punk style. If you love their other albums, you won't be disappointed.

This is easily Paint It Black's finest effort to date. It doesn't quite have that that urgency and pure nihilism that CVA had or the flowing melody of Paradise, but it does have some seriously dementing and brutal songs. Theres also a great deal of rhytmic experimentation and noise, which makes the album dark. In a way, it reminds me of the progression Black Flag took, but without all the twisted, atonal guitar solos. The most melodic part comes in the last song. In a way, I felt like they were trying to re-create the magic of Memorial Day, but its actually a very unique melody. Oh and be warned. There are some electronic experimentation at the end of the few songs that produces a sort of a dillusional state. You may not like it, but you can always skip ahead to the next song. If you don't have this record, you're missing out on PIB at their angriest.

This CD is awesome. A really good hard album. Paint it Black doesn't really have huge changes from album to album so if you like their other stuff you will like this.

Good Hardcore punk.

Also they put some really sweet sounds in between some songs. It's cool.
