Agony

In the time-honored tradition of SOCIAL DISTORTION, THE CLASH and The Chieftain's, Chicago’s most infamous Irish folk-rock hooligans, THE TOSSERS return with a new arsenal of raucous, sincere anthems for the downtrodden that provide musical rays of hope in a time of dark uncertainty.

Formed by the Duggins brothers on the South Side of Chicago in the mid-’90s, THE TOSSERS have become renown as one of the most notorious and enjoyable live bands in the country. Fusing the classic Irish rock of SHANE McGOWAN and THE POGUES, with the working class singer-songwriter rock of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and ELVIS COSTELLO and the high-octane punk energy of THE CLASH and STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, THE TOSSERS create an exciting and moving brand of Celtic rock that anyone of any age or background can fall in love with.

THE TOSSERS return in 2007 with their new Victory full-length, Agony . This record not only shows a band that is growing in their writing and playing, but in life in general. The songs are tales of reflection, friendship and just living life to the fullest. From heartfelt ballads to fast, hard drinking songs, Agony runs a spectrum of emotions the way that only a TOSSERS record can. Few bands are so genuine in their writing; rarely do they wear the emotions in their songs on their sleeves the way THE TOSSERS do.

So pull up a stool, order up a pint and a shot, and get ready to belt out some songs. THE TOSSERS are in town and you best be ready to raise some hell with them.

I was suprised how good this was. I noticed about a third of the way through this record there is no electric guitar, but the songs still rock as hard as more punk sounding flogging molly. I think this album would be hard to dislike.

Here we go again with another great release by Chicago's very own Irish influenced band in The Tossers. "Agony" is definitely the band's most musically talented album yet. Although "Agony" comes at ya with 17 tracks, it's surprisin' to see that it only clocks in just over 48 minutes. A lot of this is due to the band's fast ragin' Irish punk side that'll always be part of The Tossers repertoire. From the opening track-"Never Enough", The Tossers take you on a personal journey goin' straight into their Irish punk ways 'bout the booze to other fast tracks such as "Pub and Culture", "Did it All For You", "Siobhan", "Where ya been Johnny?", & "The Nut House". For a more folk side check out tracks "Leopardstown Races", "Romany", and "Movin' On"-where Aaron Duggins(tin whistle) really shines with his graceful playin' style. Let's not discount Becca's fiddle playin' especially on "The Sheep in the Boots"-a crafty instrumental that'll have you toe-tappin' without notice. Just about every track stands out on its own and it's hard to pick a favorite. Overall, I would say this is probably the darkest album the band has released. Lead singer/mandolin player- T. Duggins provides originality with just plain old heartfelt lyrics to some serious bad arse rants. Without a doubt, The Tossers latest album definitely showcases their unbelievable talent to cover all walks of life. From everyday decision makin', drinkin', politics, love, to an inspirational track called "Be", "Agony" easily stands out as The Tossers most diverse album that keeps gettin' better and better with every listen. The more you listen to this album the more you'll be hooked! sla'inte!

I really did not like that last Tossers cd, and to be honest I hate all the Floggnig Molly type shit. However, on Agony the band brings a new energy that was awesome to hear. And instead of just having Irish sounding songs there are elements of bluegrass, polka and many other things that keeps it fresh. Make sure check these guy out. Too bad it wasn't out for St. Pattys Day
