When Your Heart Stops Beating

(Members of Aquabats, Blink 182, Boxcar Racer, Transplants)

Universal B000775402

Released on November 14, 2006

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Former blink-182 co-founder Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker have reunited under the aegis of a new band, (+44), and will release their much anticipated album, When Your Heart Stops Beating on Interscope Records. The album is produced by Hoppus and Barker and executive produced by long-time blink-182 producer Jerry Finn.

Recruited for their new journey as (+44) – pronounced “Plus 44” – Shane Gallagher (The Nervous Return) and Craig Fairbaugh (Transplants, The Forgotten, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) join singer-bassist Hoppus and drummer-keyboardist Barker and pick up where the popular, multi-platinum- selling band blink-182 left off after splitting in late 2004. “We were twothirds of blink-182, so we’re not afraid of sounding like ourselves,” says Hoppus. “We’re not divorcing ourselves from the past, but we are pushing beyond the past. We’re progressing like musicians should.” Barker agrees: “Mark and I have a natural chemistry after playing together for so long and it’s only gotten stronger. This band is a continuation of blink-182 but it’s also different. For a long time, blink-182 was an underdog. I like being the underdog again.”

Yep, i was a Blink-182 fan. And i hated Angels and Airwaves. So, consciously or not, i was expecting the worst from +44. And the worst is not here, really not. One of the first good surprise is that even if +44 is still a pop-punk band, it really never tries to play on the same ground than Blink. It's a more self-confident and mature band (these two adjectives are not objectively positive, don't get me wrong), and the songs reflect it, as the lyrics do. Actually, the lyrics do not reflect a lot of things, they are the problem of this album, but it's ok, one can go through this difficulty. No, really, a good surprise. Some songs ("Lycanthrope", "When your heart stop beating", "Make you smile" or "No it isn't") are just great and could stay in your head for a day without annoying you. Not a must have, but not a useless album neither. A good pop-punk/rock record, and on some songs, even a slighty original one. And absolutely not a pompous and vain effort who tries to be more than it does anything. Yes, i think of AvA.

i grew up on blink 182, so i had a lot of expectations buying this album. definitely beats angels and airwaves. It's not blink 182 though, not pop-punk or anything like that. The new sound is refreshing, vocals are solid, and so is everything else pretty much. the music is great. it's light and chill.

This CD is great. It has some really good hooks in it and Mark Hoppus delivers as always. This record is definitely a must-have for Blink 182 fans. Travis Barker is an incredible drummer, and shows his ability to play just about anything on this record. Craig from Lars and the Bastards also tears it up on this one laying down harmony under Mark. This record easily beat Angels & Airwaves' debut in my opinion, and it's definitely closer to what fans have come to expect from the members of Blink 182 than Tom's new band. It's a good buy, and has songs you'll find yourself listening to over and over again.

Its crazy to think that I enjoyed this cd despite not being a fan of Blink 182 or their other projects. While half of the songs are real pleasing to listen to, the other half are quite boring and remind me of Mark's old band. B182 fans will pick this up no doubt and non-fans with closed minds won't. To be honest your not missing out on anything special but its still a fun cd.

In my opinion Angel's and Airwaves album is better than this. Do i love this cd? Heck Yes! It is awesome. It has some very catchy songs and some really nice harmonies.

If you like blink 182 you will love this, even if you don't you will like it. It's alot more pop-punk then what tom did with angels and airwaves. Travis is truly a gifted drummer, and it shows on this record. Mark tries some different stuff on this record that he probably wouldn't have done when he was with Blink.

I'm impressed with this record. I was hoping to see mark try some electronic music on this record, but maybe in the future i'll get to see that.

'when your heart stops beating', 'no it isn't' and the track with Carol (who was originally in this band) 'make you smile' are my favourites. this cd has some cracker tracks and in no way is their any "fillers"

Go and buy this album now, you won't regret it!

This Cd is good, I don't think I could ever not like something that any (ex) member of blink 182 puts out. I've always prefered Mark's vocals and he can write some really great songs.

But this cd's major downfall is that it will always remind me of the end of something great, obviously this cd will never be mentioned without bringing up blink and mark and tom's fight. No matter how good any band any of the (ex) members are in is, they will always be in the shadow if blink. I guess I just wasn't ready for a band that has had such a big impact on me, no matter how cliche that may sound, to break up. While this cd will slowly slide off my playlist over the next year or so, blink 182 will never lose its appeal.

I really enjoy this cd. It is a top 10 cd of the year in my opinion. There are a good mixture of slow and fast songs. Travis does a amazing job on drums. My favorite tracks: 155, No It Isnt, Make You Smile and Lycanthrope.

Great CD. Really different from blink but whatever it's still good. Everyone grows up and everyone changes. I think Mark and Travis did a great job.

This is a good cd not to great but not bad by a longshot mark is the singer and he does pretty good volcals there is pretty good guitar and drums i like the song "Baby, come on" the one thing wrong with it i think is that is not long enough for all the hype this cd got i thought it would be a bit longer.

People will naturally compare this band with Angels & Airwaves but the two bands are a lot different. Plus 44 is less of a departure from what Blink 182 was doing at the end up it isn't just a continuation of that band. The songs are great and you'll find yourself listening to this a few times in a row before moving on. Highly recommended.
