The Antioch is an honest elucidation of Mourningstar's views on modern society, religion, politics, economics, love, and life. The music is aggressive, yet melodic, while the lyrics are delivered with angst and packed with social discontent. The band's approach is neither sugarcoated nor overproduced, and engineer/producer Matt Goldman was able to capture their exact sound. So, if you're looking for an unconventional brand of melodic punk/hardcore, Mourningstar is the band for you!
Cover and traycard painted by Strung Out's frontman, Jason Cruz.
"MOURNINGSTAR may just be the best punk band you've never heard". -
PastePunk.com
A must for fans of AFI, Rise Against, Thrice and Strung Out!
"...Refreshingly original-sounding! Impressively rockin', this five-piece
would appeal to those who enjoy hardcore, punk, emo, and even nu-metal. Most
of all, it's for music fans fed up with all those cookie-cutter bands." -

Good album for the most part. Not very original though, but then again what is these days? The music scene is completely flooded right now, so talent seems to get you further than originality. Not that that's a bad thing I guess. This literally sounds exactly like Davey Havok fronting Strung Out. There really isn't any better description for it than that. They've even got the AFI backups down pat. Solid music and everything, but you've heard it before. If you need something to hold you over until Blackhawks Over Los Angeles then pick this up.

"The Antioch", produced by Matt Goldman and featuring artwork by Jason Cruz of Strung Out, is an amazing piece of work. First off it sounds incredible, A+ for production. From start to finish, this record is a nonstop phenomenon. The lyrics are very well written and are belted out in solid form whether singing, yelling or screaming. Technical guitars add quality and life to the mix, while drum and bass back each song with a rhythm made to get crazy to. My favorite tracks are Leviathan, Dusk and the Atavist, Callisto, Silent Be Thy Midnight Devination and Dead To Me. It's hard, its soft, its amazing. An unbelievable mix of elements comparable to the likes of Strung Out, Thrice and early AFI. Turn It Up. Its MOURNINGSTAR.

Mourningstar are back with a top notch release! I've had this album for a while now and I continue to listen to it on a regular basis. As usual, production is the best you can have, if you listen to the lyrics you can tell that they were very well thought of, the music is melodic but still shows a metal/agressive side to it, and they continue the style that has been lacking in punk these days.
Is this album up to par with "Distrato" you ask? Even though I love Distrato, I'd say this album is a touch better, song wise. But still, those two albums are regulars of mine. In this album the vocalist still has that rockin' Strung Out type voice which shows a little less I find than "Distrato." One of my buddies even said that a bit of AFI was in the vocals, I agree too. I love the cover art by Jason as well; I find it goes with the music. It gives it a good identity. This album has to be a top choice of mine for 2006!
