Your Ghost Is A Gift

Ferret Music 65

Released on March 21, 2006

LIGEIA formed in December 2004 by Keith Holuk (vocals), Phil Fonseca (drums) and Ryan Ober (guitar). The addition of bassist Matthew Bennett, and guitar player Chris Keane early 2005 completed this young band lineup and perfected their already devastating sound. A genre defying combination of hardcore and metal, rich in choruses and powerful melodies while maintaining the hardcore sensibility that has grown to be expected from any band emerging from western Massachusetts. As a collective body, this band has and always will strive to create the most honest, heartfelt, emotional music that they can. On Your Ghost Is A Gift, their powerful Ferret Music debut album, LIGEIA surely showcases just that. These five young men have poured their hearts and souls into ten tracks rich in raw and powerful emotion. Recorded and produced by Ken Susi of UNEARTH (IF HOPE DIES, SINCE THE FLOOD), Your Ghost Is A Gift is as brilliant a debut as any, and is destined to become an instant favorite and hold its own as one of the most riveting hardcore albums of the year.

I'll admit, this cd caught me by surpise considering that the majority of ferrets releases in the past have been pure shit, i.e. new in flames. But i did have faith because of the new Scarlet and Remembering Never. Which is funny because the first thing i thought about this cd is, 'Wow this sounds a lot like the new Remembering Never." Which it does, but it isn't as un-original as the new RN. It is more melodic, and at times has some metal influence to it. The best way, i think to describe Ligeia is a more melodic Remembering Never mixed in with some Misery Signals. The only downside to this is that sometimes his singing is lame, but sometimes it's good and fits in well. If you liked the RN (i am really sick of mentioning them), Hardcore, Metal, or Ferrets stuff in general then check this out because it's probably the best ferret release since The Banner besides the new Scarlet.
