Matchbook Romance

Epitaph 86774-2

Released on February 14, 2006

Matchbook Romance have come a long way in a short time. Following the path of bands like Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, and Fallout Boy, MBR has scanned over 200,000 of their 2003 debut, Stories and Alibis, through pure sweat and blood – constant touring (including three Warped Tours), and ecstatic word of mouth and internet presence. Now, with Voices, MBR are poised to join those bands at a new level in their careers; already one of the most anticipated releases of 2006, Voices holds close to MBR’s emotional, post-hardcore roots while delivering massive singalong choruses that will carry the band to the widest possible audience. First single and video “Monsters” shows a band that has arrived, with a newly confident sound that will be everywhere in 2006.

old matchbook was alot better. It seems like alot of bands on epitaph are making changes but changes in the wrong direction. Theres only 3 good songs on this cd adn the rest are slow or just crappy songs

Not much I can say about this album that hasn't already been said by Matchbook fans. It sounds nothing like West for Wishing and nothing like Stories and Alibis, which I think is good. The album has a much sinister feel to it which is due to the fact most bands have only good "breakup" CD in them. Case in point, Finch's What It Is to Burn. A fine album, but Say Hello to Sunshine is lacking intensity. However, lack of intensity or emotion is something you won't find in Voices. I have to admit, the first time I heard the album I hated it. It wasn't what I was accustomed to and the sound threw me off. But it grew on me and as I began to listen to it more I realized what the CD had to offer. A few songs top the five minute mark and several others make you want more. I honestly don't think there's a bad track on this CD, but if you're really into Stories and Alibis or anything that sounds like this album, try this album. Matchbook Romance grew up, their sound expanded with them, and I personally can't wait to see what else these guys can come up with. Instead of nagging on bands about how their sound changes too much, applaud creativity and embrace change.

This is Defintly really different from their last cd, but it's still fucking good. Its much more dark, aggressive, and less poppy. If you liked their last album, you might like it, or you might not. I will admit it took me a couple listens to really like it mostly because i was expecting stuff like Promise, etc. There are a couple slow melodic songs that fans of the old cd will like. I have a feeling this cd will attract many fans who didn't previously like them.
