Maritime

Glass Floor

(Promise Ring, Dismemberment Plan)

Desoto 44

Released on June 1, 2004

$11.25

Maritime rise from the ashes of two of the most loved pop bands to come from the 90s punk scene, The Promise Ring and the Dismemberment Plan. On this debut Maritime presents a collection of songs that trend more toward the mellow tunes of Postal Service and Belle and Sebastian than the up-tempo songs of the band member’s previous projects. Maritime will be working hard on the road and already have a healthy tour schedule planned for the summer and fall.

This CD is okay, but honestly dissapointing for Von Bolen's life after Promise Ring. The songs are well crafted, but nothing new here. Von Bolen sounds as if his heart isn't in to it. Not like in Promise Ring. "Adios," is one redeeming factor, that song takes days to get out of your head. On a whole, though, Glass Floor comes up short of expectations.

Maritime is simply the Beach Boys of the new age. Very easy listening and smooth sailing music. Buy if you are a fan of the Shins or Postal Service.

Acoustic guitars, reverb filled mellow and relaxing vocals. Maritime picks up right were The Promise Ring left off. Very similar in style to The Promise Ring's last album (woodwater). Dave von Bohlen and Dan Didier (both x-promise ring) team up with The Dismemberment Plan's Eric Axelson and a slew of other musicians including J. Robbins (x-burning airlines) who also produced engineered and mixed this release.

This album is a must have if you liked woodwater. I would also recommend this cd to fans of jets to brazil, sense field, my morning jacket, pedro the lion and anyone who would like to add something a little more on the mellow side to their collection.
