Dirtnap 47

Released on May 18, 2004

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Dirtnap Records is proud to present the latest in a long line of classic Pacific Northwest 70's punk/power pop idols, THE GIRLS! This Seattle (all male, by the way) 5 piece combines elements of THE BRIEFS, THE CARS, T Rex, and the Stiv Bators solo records. Think geeky, twitchy, colorful punk/power pop/glam rock with a whole lot of their own unique personality stamped on to each and every song! These guys (which feature a former member of THE SPITS, who recently replaced Steve E. Nix of THE BRIEFS as THE GIRLS' bass player!) are one of the most popular bands in Seattle these days. Their demo recordings have been getting tons of radio play, they've done two full US tours, pack local clubs every time they play, and have just released a vinyl-only, European LP on Germany's super-cool Radio Blast Records. AAM Radio promo will be servicing college radio, tons of promos will be going out to zines and record stores nation-wide, and the band will be touring for several months following this record's release. It looks like these guys are gonna be the next national band out of Seattle, so get in on the ground floor now!!!

I just can't get into this album. I find it painful to listen to some of these songs all the way through. I figured a band that a member of the Briefs was in, would be a good band...I was wrong. Maybe if I saw them live, I would like the songs better. Maybe not.

Forget about what the first reviewer said about this record! This is killer. Imagine if The CARS have had a punk edge to their songs or if the BRIEFS would turn their punk into a more new wave sound! So here's where the GIRLS appeal. A blend of power/pop/punk/new wave that can get out of your head. I wasn't blown away at first when i heard the cd but after listening to it over and over i was hooked! Fans of The CARS, The VOIDOIDS, The BRIEFS, BLONDIE and BUZZCOCKS will like this shit!
