AGAINST ME! continue to challenge the boundaries of punk rock with the release of their third full length album, Searching For A Former Clarity. In an effort to further develop their sound, while ensuring that their mix of punk, folk, country, and blues was properly represented in the recording, Jay Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) was brought on as engineer/producer. The resulting 14 tracks tell a tale of the highs and lows of the band’s experience with their growing popularity, and their struggle to maintain their identity throughout. All of the gritty, heart-felt intensity that has filled AGAINST ME!’s music from day one comes through on this recording! Since their inception, a relentless touring schedule has enabled the band to build a devout fan base, in turn doubling record sales from their first record (Reinventing Axl Rose). With the success of their last FAT album, As The Eternal Cowboy, and their DVD We’re Never Going Home, we’re confident that Searching For A Former Clarity will follow, if not surpass the trend.

A good buy. I was really pleased with this CD, my only real complaint is the last track seems an awful lot like The Weakerthans. Although some people would consider that to be a good thing, I'm just thinking about how the overall originality of the album was good minus the closer.
Anyway, I still enjoy it and listen to this quite frequently.

A read a AP article about this CD and the title said that "in a perfect world GreenDay would be opening for them". I think this atands very true. This CD really Against Me!'s best work. The song writing and lyrics of Tom Gabel have developed nicely and turns out great. Just overal, a very good CD. Go buy it now.

Great Band, Great Cd, Great songs, Great song names. This Cd is quite a bit different than thier previous releases. While they still have thier classic cowboy punk souding songs, some of them sound more typical punk style. "Even at our Worse...", "Problems", and "Dont lose touch" are my favorites on the cd, and they are right in a row, but at the end, ohh well. The songs on this cd are also quite a bit longer. Instead of a 2 minute max, they range from about 2 1/2 to 5 minutes. Good shit though.

Tom Gabel is definitely one frustrated dude...which has lent to one brilliant album. A refreshingly subtle blend of cynicism and introspect that comes only with experience and maturation, the collaborative of music and lyric that is 'Searching For...' cannot be meaningfully compared with their previous releases. Excellent album.

Against Me! is by far one of the best bands on the scene today. This album is really good. A bit slower than Eternal Cowboy, but just as exciting.

I get to see these guys live in a few days, and I would say that I would give up all of the punk rock shows that I have seen this year just to see this one. These guys are fucking amazing. Get any CD. I have six. This is my favorite. They have totally different songs on old demo tapes and vinyls if you can find them.
