Alkaline Trio

Vagrant 409

Released on May 24, 2005

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

As "Time To Waste" builds from mounting menace to a majestic and traumatic chorus and segues directly into "The Poison," an Andriano barnburner reminiscent in spirit of those I Lied My Face Off era sides, though played with a fierce precision to which the early Trio could only aspire. "Burn" updates Skiba's songwriting acumen with twists and touches worthy of vintage Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode, while "Dethbed," "Mercy Me" and "Fall Victim" find an ever maturing but still familiar Alkaline Trio sound resurfacing like a long lost friend. Just as Alkaline Trio were about to start recording Crimson, Matt Skiba fractured his wrist skateboarding. Though it was a minor break, and he was only in a cast for three weeks, the break pushed back the Trio's recording schedule and the pending album's release. After Skiba healed, the band jumped into recording and, with the help of producer Finn, finished in January '05. Skiba was anxious to get back on his board (though an avid skater since the age of ten, he had abandoned it for three months in fear of injuring himself again and further delaying the album's May 24th release). But, after 15 minutes, Skiba dropped into a pool and broke his left arm.

It's Alkaline Trio, sure it will never be the old one. So I got around to commenting on it, it's a nice cd, but I don't really pop it in very often. Although, I must say, it goes quite well when you want a 5 cd shuffle of your Alkaline Trio cds. Their old is the best, this stuff is good, that's it.

I dont know about this at all, people seem too love this more than there other stuff, id go as far as saying this is there worst album too date, pick up there self titled album, songs like I Lied My Face Off, Cooking Wine and Bleeder is the alkaline trio i love, the lyrics are more emotional and well fuck it better, From here to...would be there next best and then good morning, lets hope there next album is better, but good effort anyway

Great! I cannot decide if this album is as good as Good Mourning. Sometimes I am in the mood for either one. Either way, it looks as if Alkaline Trio is over there "From Here to Infirmary" phase, and I for one don't mind terribly. FHTI had its place, but as I've grown up, so has their sound. Some hits off this album had to be "Time to Waste", "Burn", and of course "Sadie" which has to be my favorite of the album. Be sure to check out the enhanced CD video "Blood Red" before you start listening to the album. It really gets you into the mood of the album. I give it 4 stars because it isn't monumental, but it is definitely worth the price (and then some)!

How disapointing can a record get pick this up and find out. The AK3 have been progressively going downhill since their first record. You really should buy Goddamnit! and then work your way forward in time and when you get sick of their sound stop buying records. I should have stopped with infirmary but such is life.

Good album. Not as good as Good Mourning. But, still put together well. The guitars are a bit heavier and the rythem is a little slower. The vocals have improved a lot though.Matt Skiba's voice isn't as raspy as it used to be.The lyrics are really good. For long time fans, this is a good buy. But, if you're just getting into them.I'd get either Good Mourning or even From Here to Infirmiry.

Holy shit. This album is SO fucking good. Cleaner and with more production than their other albums, but just fantastic. It has both very beautiful and some very dark songs (i.e. Sadie). Despite added piano and strings on some songs, they still perform it live very well. Gorgeous record! Get it!

I really like this band, they'll be in Holland in August and this cd is really good. I agree with the others though, it's an album in a league of it's own, not comparable to any of the albums, although most of their albums are like that and THAT's why this band is just so great!

I have been a fan of the Trio for a while and, like a lot fans, much prefered their Asian man material. I was quite apprehensive about the quality of this CD when I heard that they wanted to have a hit song etc...however as soon as I played it my worries vanished. This is very different to Goddamit! or Maybe Ill Catch Fire - but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Catchy and well written songs, with the added bonus of Dan's vocals, make this perhaps their best album yet - certainly better than their other Vagrant stuff. The only problem is that the use of piano and strings in some songs occasionally feels forced - part of their new popular sound, methinks. However this is still a fantastic CD and recommended to trio fans, old and new

i've been a die-hard alkaline trio fan for a long time and always been impressed with each release. but this album is incredible and superior to every other album they've put out. there are no filler songs - you can listen to every track. dan's songs are much stronger on this release, including the a haunting ballad to end the album. there is some experimenting with electronics, but still has that dark trademark sound. if you like them, buy this album now! if you're new to them, it's a great album to start with.

Alkaline Trio are amazing. This CD is amazing. It took a bit to grow on me, but I love every single song from start to finish. This hasn't come out of my CD player since it's release.
