A fully realized concept album inspired by the suicide of a close friend of Mars Volta founders, De-Loused in the Comatorium's narrative consists of fantastic worlds and adventures that Cedric imagines the friend experiencing while in a coma following an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Although the story ends tragically, the creators insist that this is a celebration of the adventurous and daring life that their friend lived.

Oh yeah! I never thought they could get to be this good.Tremendous vocals, and ohoho what a drumming base!! and Flea gets close to be God in this album, he should stay with mars volta. Huge!! You can't stay calm with this music, there's something in it that makes your heart pump way too fast.. sometimes. DO NOT DRIVE WITH THIS CD ON YOUR PLAYER. You could end trying to crash into somebody.

I haven't had this long, but I can tell you it's by far my favorite cd I've picked up this year...there is no one out there like mars volta, and there never will be...these guys are totally original, and even though it sounds different than atdi, it's just as good in it's own way. Cedric does do mostly singing on this album, which was a bit weird for me and first, but he's got a great voice...and he still yells on a few of the songs. anyone who likes creative music and are thirsty for something completely original, and if you're sick of all the music out there right now, pick this up...it is an acquired taste, but be patient w/ it, it will grow on you! boo yeah!

Don't think twice: BUY THIS RECORD!!! If you're a music snob who only listens to top-shelf music, this is for you. If you've been waiting for the next great concept album, here it is. If you just like good music in general, get this. If you want cool pepole to think you are cool, buy this (and a T-shirt). If you like Good Charlette and New Found Glory- pass this one up- so I can continue pretending to be cool. Seriously though, this record may take a few listens to completely sink in, but it's overwhelming power will knock you down from the first listen.

7/1/2003 by Anthony from Brandywine, MD Rating:
Wow. This album is amazing. I thought there was no way that Mars Volta could be as good as At the Drive-in. This band surpasses what ATDI was ever capable of musically. The chaos that Omar brought to ATDI is definitely noticeable in Mars Volta, but the sonic environments they have created with the help of the late Jeremy Ward, and keyboardist Ikey are astounding. Cedric's lyrics are as strange as ever (he is a master of radical imagery), and his voice sounds incredible. He sings beautifully, with barely any of the shout-talk style he used in ATDI. My best description of the music is a mix of ATDI(Vaya EP style)rock, Pink Floydian kinda, salsa beats in a song or two, and even some free form jazz. You do kinda have to look at it as a whole experience rather than a bunch of songs. 61 minutes of passion driven music, that should definitely be not be missed. Especially you ATDI fans. Get it now!
