Rise Against - Sufferer & The Witness
Rise Against's fourth album, The Sufferer & The Witness, continues to build upon the solid punk foundation the band started upon it’s inception. The Sufferer & The Witness is a striking collection, with Rise Against using elements from spoken word, expanded balladry ,and simply prodding forward with a faster, harder, louder ethic,. In fact, not only does this latest effort find Rise Against infrequently referencing its own extensive back catalog, it's also a homecoming for the band's key production team.

It's been over 4 months since this CD came out, and it still gets played by me. I liked this CD so much better than Siren Song. I thought SS was a bit underwhelming, and it was very mainstream. Well, Swing Life Away was mainstream, as well. When You have Bill Stevenson producing, you'd have to be the worst band in the world to have a bad product. There are a few songs I skip, but it's an otherwise solid album.

I don't really know what to say about this CD. I know that I like it and I know that I like the band, but it's hard to say why exactly. Their CDs are essentially the same formula, but each one improves on that formula. There is a better band utilizing this politcal-melodic-hardcore style in Boysetsfire, but this CD finds its way into my player more often. Well I guess I shouldn't question it this is an awesome and Addictive CD but I can't put my finger on why exactly. Although I did think Siren Song was a better CD.

Sounds like Rise Against--fantastic. The only song I didn't like was "Roadside"... it just doesn't sit right with me. I did like "Swing Life Away" from Siren Song, but this is atypical of a different vein. Everything else is awesome.

| Do i even have to say anything?
Rise Against are the worlds single greatest punk rock band. They are perfect, and this cd is yet another perfect example of catchy, inspiring and gut wrenching melodic hardcore. Its not as good as Revolutions Per Minute but hey, its pretty fuckin hard to compete at that level!
I love Rise a FUCKIN Gainst! And i will forever love every song they write and this cd, obviously, means the world to me and it should to you to. GO FUCKIN BUY IT!

...uh....What can I say? Another solid release from these guys. Each album keeps getting tighter and tighter. Lyrically sound, fast-paced straight forward rock and roll. I applaud the effort in a time when so many records are B.S.

Whilst being a good CD, this cd lacks the rawness previously displayed in Rise Against's first two albums. This album contains very little screaming and a chick vocalist briefly on a few tracks (which i feel does not suit the band what-so-ever). Lyrically, the album is still amazing, there are a lot of catchy tracks but will most likely appeal to Siren Songs fans as oppossed to RPM or Unravelling fans. I still really enjoy this album more then Siren Songs, but it isn't really what I expected it to be.

It's no RPM, but it's still better than Siren Song. I will say though that there are some tracks that, while very catchy, sound really slapped together (Ready To Fall and Prayer Of The Refugee...I'm looking in your direction). Just because a catchy chorus is in the same key as the rest of the song doesn't mean that it fits well. RPM had some of the most complete and compeling punk rock songs of the past 5 or 10 years and it's understandable that Rise Against might never write something as great ever again (especially with a major breathing down their neck), but I do have to say that I appreciate the fact that they've stayed relatively true even after signing to Geffen. Anyway, there's a lot of great tracks on here and if you're going to buy a major label release it might as well be one that has more heart than pretty much all the other major label releases this year (or last, or the year before that...and so on and so forth).

This album is MUCH better than Siren Song of the Counter Culture. I was very impressed. It's not any louder or faster than I could have predicted, but believe it or not, there are actually people out there who believed they would return to their Unraveling and RPM style. A word to the wise: that practically NEVER happens with ANY band. The songwriting is very solid and the musicianship and subject matter is what can be expected from Rise Against. This is an excellent album for first-time RA listeners, and I recommend it completely.

I thought this album would suck. Hell was I wrong. This shows much improvment from songwriting(see "Roadside"). I really liked it. I dont think signing to a major label hurt rise against at all unlike bands like Afi(who's new cd i didnt give much chance too,i like it a bit better now,but thats not about rise against). The first 3 songs rule.
