| Less Than Jake - Borders And Boundaries |
Having spent the better part of the '90s releasing records (over 76 titles), touring like mad dogs, and making oodles and oodles of money, Gainesville, Florida's metallic, horn-ridden, punksters LESS THAN JAKE unload their fifth full-length album. Fifteen super-duper songs of witty observation, gut-wrenching humor, and high-flying fun. Creative digipak CD packaging just adds to the hilarity.

| not their best but i love this album. There could have been more horns but over all this is jazz! This album is even better on vinyl. LTJ is the best and if you are a fan go out and get this. |

| All right, I just bought this record along with the new Anthem CD. Being a trumpet player, the first thing bothering me is that LTJ's horns are going down the toilet. I'm sure signing with big, evil Warner Brothers Records for the new Anthem album didn't help to salvage what little horn parts they had left. They were all right for a few songs on this album, damn near nonexistent on Anthem, and hey, who knows... maybe next time they won't be part of the band at all! Definitely buy Hello Rockview if you're in it to hear the horns play, like I am. However, I'm giving this album a 4, because I think LTJ still rocks. They're going more pop or rock now, which sucks major loads of crap, but this album was still pretty decent to listen to.
All in all, though, I'd definitely pick the Bosstones as my all time favorite ska-punk band. Less Than Jake used to be right up there, but you know, when you sell out, you increasingly lose your original fan base, and in turn, their respect. This is not a lecture in record label politics, so I'll just leave it at this: Buy this record and support LTJ. Just maybe, they might pool up enough money to ditch the major label and go back to indy labels again to make REALLY good music, like it used to be.
"May the horns be with you." |
