This album has some great songs. The sound quality isn't the greatest but I don't think that it really makes a negative impact on the record as a whole. Sometimes on this album Chris' singing can be questionable, haha. But I love this album, especially Chicago is burning. This being said, it is my least favorite Lawrence Arms full length. But it still rocks. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have any other Lawrence Arms records (listen a newer one first).

Dude. Awesome. I prefer it over guided tour because chris sings a couple in here that kick too much ass. Some of these songs are better that the beeter quality stuff. If you're just gettin into the larry arms, then cocktails for sure, but if ur a fan get this dude. I GET TO SEE THEM AGAIN IN EXACTLY 23 DAYS, 6 HOURS AND 47 SECONDS! yeah......ur jelous, it radiates off ur computer.

im having a hard time figuring whether this is as good as oh calcutta or not..... it definitly made them one of my for sure favorite bands though. this cd is sooo fucking good... i love when chris voice cracks in turnstyles... and the bonus songs are fucking brilliant!!! i love this cd, and if you like midwest punk, get this now

9/15/2004 by Alex from Long Beach, CA Rating:
Hmmm...well, had u asked me about this CD 3 weeksa go, I woulda said it sucks ass, but now, that ive given it many listens, i finally realize how great it is, alot of the songs are chris, and those are the ones that tend to stand out. DO not buy this cd until you purchase Apethy and Exhaustion or Guided Tour... or Greatest story ever told. Definetly a must buy. sounds less like broadways than Guided, but great. Its a mix between, the broadways, the lawrence arms (apethy) and maybe a touch of slapstick, but it is a great cd. listen for a few times. P.S. check out the hella awesome secret tracks. HARMONICA SOLO. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well if it isn't the second release from one of the most underrated bands of all time. okay simply put, the LawrenceArms are such a great band. i don't know, it could be empathy with fellow alcoholics but i think that it has more to do with the fact that they fucking rock. granted, "ghost stories" didn't initially grab me like LA's latter two releases, "apathy&exhaustion" or "greatest story ever told". but in a short span of time it grew on me and gave me a new found admiration for the band. the more i listen to it i find myself likening it to "unfun" by Jawbreaker. there is an evolution here that a fan can appreciate and old songs that you hope will be played at the next show, etc...you can dig it. HEY! Brendan Kelly was on the Daily Show recently and he was going on a tirade against conservative punks. pretty funny shit and evidently yes, they do exist. anyway if you appreciate the LawrenceArms, why do you not have this yet?

5/27/2004 by Jonathon from Cincinnati, OH Rating:
The Lawrence Arms, do i need to even say anything more. Though this music isnt as musically georgous as apathy and exuastion or greatest story ever told, it still manages to produce that lawrence arms feel, that you can relate to any song they write. They manage to put their feelings across in a unique way, that will leave its mark on punk rock for years to come. Though this cd is old, and recorded somewhat amatuer, if you look past that its a wonderful cd to add to your lawrence arms collection, buy it!!!

5/25/2004 by Joey from San Jose, CA Rating:
i really like the lawrence arms. in fact they are one of my favorite bands. that being said, this is my least favorite record by them. not that its a bad record. i actually love it.. it has very beautiful melodic songs with excellent lyrics. it just so happens that i love "a guided tour of chicago" and "apathy and exhaustion" more. but anyways, go get this record if youre a lawrence arms fan. but chances are, if you are a fan, you probably love them enough to have gotten all of their records already.

5/22/2004 by Drew from Willard, MO Rating:
This is one of my all time favorite CDs and is the CD that introduced me to The Lawrence Arms, now they're my favorite band. Their Fat Wreck material is their best in my opinion, "Greatest Story Ever Told," is an amazing punk rock record. "Ghost Stories," is more like "GSET" than anything else they've released. I reccomend starting out with their Fat Wreck releases for first time listeners. "Ghost Stories," has some of their most classic songs they've ever written; "Turnstyles," "Sixteen Hours," and "Light Breathing (Me and Martha Plimpton in a Fancy Elevator)" are classic punk rock tracks. Everyone needs a Lawrence Arms CD, one of the best punk rocks bands no one knows about.

1/5/2004 by Eli from Pocatello, ID Rating:
The Lawrence Arms are one of my favorite bands making punk rock right now. Good riffs, good lyrics, good vocals. The songs on this are shorter than Apathy and Exhaustion and lack the coruses abundant on that record, still the songs are good, my personal favorite is track 8 Light Breathing(Me and Martha Plimpton in a Crowded Elevator). If you are new to this band then get the aforementioned Apathy and Exhaustion or their newest, the super cool Greatest Story Ever Told

9/13/2003 by David from Santa Teresa, NM Rating:
so i have been a long time fan of the lawrence arms and i have finally come around to buying this cd. its a good cd but i thing that apathy and exhaustion is better. the vocals on this are hard to understand and the guitar overpowers them. but its still a really good cd. you can guarantee at any lawrence arms show they will play "16 hours" and that is one of the best songs on here. if your a lawrence arms fan get this. if a new listener, try apathy and exhaustion and see how you like that.
