Mighty Mighty Bosstones - A Jackknife To A Swan
"A Jackknife To A Swan" feels like victory. As the title suggests, the punk, ska, and reggae inflected album simultaneously makes a huge splash and gracefully cuts the surface with songcraft perfected over the band's last two albums, 1997's platinum-selling "Let's Face It" and 2000's "Pay Attention". That was the Bosstones' intent when they began recording their seventh studio album in Boston late in 2001 with producer John Seymour (Sick Of It All, Bouncing Souls)

So recently i went on an interpunk binge - buying albums from bands that i once owned in the past as well as new things to check out. This being one i've owned and remembered enjoying. And even though ska interests me as about as much as a wet potato these days, i'm glad i went back to this. A Jacknife To A Swan is not only better than i remembered but i was extremely exited while listening to it. I've always at least checked out what the Bosstones are up to and this was probably their last good album but it's a REALLY good one. So if you've never heard it but have heard anything previous then snag this. You'll enjoy.

Oh man, I don't know where to start. "Pay Attention" was such a good album, even though Nate Albert and Kevin Linear left the band. Why, then, is "Jackknife" so weak in comparison? "Pay Attention" should have been the weak album because that's the band's first album without the brilliant Nate Albert. I like "You Gotta Go" and "Old School Off The Bright" and "A Jackknife to a Swan" . There are a few other good songs, but it lacks the energy of "Pay Attention" or every other album of theirs. I really wanted to like this album. It's just not that good. It's definately not horrible, it's just missing something that their other albums had. I'm still a Bosstones' fan though, and I always will be.
