It's A Calling

Asian Man 84

Where's a good superlative when you need one? In the case of the PLUS ONES and their debut full-length album, IT'S A CALLING we're going to make the argument that a new one ought to be coined... it's got to be a word befitting a band that's loud without exactly being punk, pop without being cloying, and sincere without coming within a mile of emo. Whatever that word is, THE PLUS ONES would never fail to deliver on it for even a minute of It's A Calling!

This cd is pretty damn cool. The #1 song on this cd is the one that is sampled on here called "all the boys" and even thats a tough call because theres lots of good ones. There are many others that are real good like "what will people say and its not you, its me and serve in heaven/rule in hell is awesome. I recommend this for fans of millencolin, down by law, and many more. I can't quite pinpoint who this band is really like. Its like many mixed like the bands I recommended this cd for. It has a touch of a lot of indie/punk rock as well like oranges band, weakerthans and more.

A very decent follow up to their excellent debut EP. Not sure if some would agree, but I hear a lot of similarities to the Odd Numbers, the Mr T Experience, the Monkees and The Jam when I listen to these guys. Very modern-pop-mod-bubblegum-rock. This is a very fun band to listen to. In fact, one of the guys also plays in the Mr T Experience! Although I love the Mr T Experience, this release is way better than the last few MTX albums.... So, skip buyin' the newest MTX and take a chance on this!!!

Ya know, I'm not really sure why I bought this CD, but I did it, and I have to live with my choice. It's not that it's BAD persay, but just a little too.. like other Asian Man bands. It just doesn't stand out at all. There are a few songs that are pretty catchy, but it doesn't really leave me with anything. Not very memorable.

I assure you, this is well-worth your money. The Plus Ones debut album! It's grrrrreat! It's like if the Kinks had wild rock 'n' roll sex with the Buzzcocks or the Ramones! Buy this now!
