Isis - SGNL 05
The latest from Boston's heralded doom-metallic sludge-shifters and a companion piece to their meaty Celestial album. Showing another side, the band leaves their usual total assault behind, and focuses on a softer, yet equally intense, ambient sound. Five tracks (that begin where the eleven on Celestial left off) of evolutionary, mechanical, whispers driven by dynamic extremes and experimentations. Includes a remix of the song "Celestial" by JUSTIN BROADRICK of GODFLESH.

holy hell. these guys are one of my favorite bands right now. metal music that can balance out being both "heavy" and "beautiful" at the same time. great atmospheric guitars with sparse vocals that sound like the roar of the mightiest of lions. the songs aren't yr typical three minute punk songs either. most of these heavy hitters clock in between eight and ten minutes, but there isn't a dull moment throughout. if you like this, check out their brand new cd on ipecac called "in the absence of truth." you will be thanking yrself.

There's only 1 actual song on here, but it kicks ass. Yet, I would still suggest buying this release LAST, because everything else they've done has at least 3 real songs on them. Buy this if you like sludge/doom/metal with ambient interludes. Aka if you like Old Man Gloom, Converge, Mare, and Pelican. Peace.

this album is amazing, as if you would expect anything else from isis. the first track is gradually building rhythm and noise thats really creepy on headphones in a dark room at night. the second track begins the pummeling...it rumbles out of your stereo and floors you immediately just how creative these guys really are. it continues through the rest of the cd, high points being the whole second song and the unexpected intro to number three. the singers voice is lower this time around with more rasp and he doesnt sing as much as on celestial either. all around an exceptional album and a must have for any fan of metal.
