From the opening strains of the politico title-track to the countrified pedal steel guitar on "Man With A Mission," from the anti-establishment anthem "American Jesus," to the heart rending ballad "Struck A Nerve," Bad Religion's "Recipe For Hate" is by far their most eclectic album, and one that never ceases to stir up controversy among fans. Graffin, a seething combination of perfect pitch and skeptical emotion, reaffirms his place as one of the best punk rock vocalists on this record. Guest appearances abound, from Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam fame) harmonizing on "American Jesus" and "Watch it Die," to Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano's stunning vocals on "Struck A Nerve," to Claw Hammer's John Wahl and Chris Bagarozzi's searing guitar leads on "Kerosene." As the songwriting team of Graffin/Gurewitz pull back from their more introspective writing that appeared on some of the previous albums, they focus ever more keenly on the events of the day. "Recipe For Hate" is a scathing commentary on the state of the nation, a social criticism addressing alcoholism, abortion and homelessness.

Another good BR album. I think I like their albums that they did without Brett Gurewitz the best. Some classic BR jams on here. The artwork is very interesting too which is always a plus.

5/30/2007 by Simon from Quebec City, PQ Canada Rating:
Well, what can I say. Everyone knows them, knows this CD & songs. A classic! Everyone who love punk love this CD.

3/27/2007 by Filippo from Montreal, PQ Canada Rating:
Not the best Bad Religion album, has a few good songs like American Jesus, but get their earlies stuff if you dont got them yet.

2/27/2006 by Micheal from Aberdeen, SD Rating:
Very good cd, not my favorite by them. It is a little slower overall, but worth getting. American Jesus to me is such a great song, as are some of the others here. Probably not an essential recording by them, but I still enjoy it very much.

12/13/2005 by Shane from Los Cruces, NM Rating:
If I am right about this, this is bad religions first CD on atlantic records and even though the musical tone and speed was brought down a bit from generator and previous albums this one still stands out. I like this whole cd and it is hard to pick any favorite songs off of it, so if you are a BR fan on any level pick this cd up.

11/2/2005 by Jonathan from Gillette, WY Rating:
I think Bad Religion is the best punk rock band of the last 20 years but I can see why this album gets such bad reviews. It's got four slow songs (4, 6, 7, 8) but more importantly is that even the fast songs lack intensity. Perhaps the band wasn't angry enough when this album was written or recorded. The slow songs get about a 1.5 and the fast songs get about a 3.5. This album is their least appealing but if you're a fan, and you have New America and No Substance, then you know that there's still decent stuff in the "bad" Bad Religion albums.

4/14/2005 by Bill from Belton, TX Rating:
This is not bad religion's best release but they are still arguably the best punk band ever. and despite some of the songs that drag there is still the best song ever recorded "american jesus". some of the other songs like struck a nerve and don't pray on me are really good too. but if for some reason you just started listening to BR then you should get generator or no control first. but all that aside its still a pretty kick ass album.

7/30/2004 by Brendan from Elmhurst, IL Rating:
THIS IS A SOMEWHAT EARLIER ALBUM FROM BR, BUT IT KICKS ASS THE MUSIC IS AWESOME AND THE COVER DOES TOO. WEVE GOT THE AMERICAN JESUS!!

4/29/2004 by Jack from Bothell, WA Rating:
This takes a few listens to get used to, but it isn't bad. a couple of the slow songs are a little too soft for my taste (Man With A Mission, Struck A Nerve) but other than that, the songs are really catchy and most awesome. best songs are American Jesus, Recipe For Hate, All Good Soldiers, and Modern Day Catastrophists.

8/13/2003 by Phyllis from Concord, OH Rating:
This cd is pretty good. It's a little slower than I would have imagined. Buy it if you like Bad Religion. I really like All Good Soldiers and American Jesus.
